    This.

It's a version of the phenomenon of state-dependent learning.

Well actually there are studies that have shown that the physiological effects and bodily processing of alcohol are the same regardless of altitude. So what differences one is picking up with a change in altitude are from other factors.

While I don't have the links to the basic studies ready to hand, here is summary one you can "take to court." (Pun intended)

This was my initial thought at well. Combine more oz's of beer with drinking faster do to social stimuli and that is probably my guess.

Being on your feet and moving around helps metabolism, but I'll bet you were quite loquacious with "interesting" effect!

Could be because when you go out you're usually drinking on an empty stomach before dinner, and at home you're drinking with or after dinner. Also, I always find I drink faster when I'm out at a bar or brewery, so that could come into play too.

I swear and others have said same thing : we call the crappy beers at Buffalo Sabres games "crack beers". It seems like if I drink 2 of these double deucers of Bud or whatever they just make me a wreck.

If I going out drinking I like to stop on the way and give a couple of pints of blood. Less blood means more drunker more faster. WINNER!!!!
