I love gadgets, especially food and drink related ones. I don't think I would pony up the $45 for the crowd funded unit but if it is released for retail I might be enticed to get it.

I share your sentiment, granted I assume and would hope that if/when they get into mass production the price point comes down significantly. If I could pick one of these up for $10-$15 and it's well-made and works as advertised, I would probably drink from the can more often.

I would get it only to walk around a party and do this to everyone's beer when they are not looking and watch them pour it on themselves. That would be worth $45

Do they realize that you can do this with any $2 can opener? I used to clean them and keep spare change in empties in college.

I could see myself throwing one in the backpack for use on hikes, or camping, or fishing. I don't want to take a glass with me, but I don't want to get bloated either - nor do I want to be deprived of the aroma of my beer

I'd buy one, but not for $45

I suppose outdoor activities would be a great place to use one of these but like you said, $45 is a bit steep.

I refuse to support them because of this...

I think the grievance is that they used 'kitten' instead of 'kit and'... which is greatly distressing, almost as bad as 'once and a while'... man I hate that.

I'm pretty sure there are already can openers on the market that leave no sharp edges.

I don't get all the hate. Sounds kinda cool. I will say though it seems overpriced.

My can opener does the same thing. If my wife paid $45 for the can opener, i'd be pissed.

The only reason I'd use this is to make a spit-cup out of a soda can, and I stopped dipping like 25 years ago. Used to use a $0.50 P-38 mil surplus can opener for this purpose, but I have to say this new gadget is a lot faster.

If I did a lot of camping/hiking/etc. I'd find it handy. As it is, though, it does seem too pricey for something that won't be of much use to me.
