Why do these constantly pop up? This reminds me of a child who had parents feed them tator tots and hotdogs their entire life( is this where the sarcasm comes?). Don't get me wrong there are plenty of beers I would never buy again, but if you are apart of a community called beer advocate do as you are told... RESPECT. Respect the time, art and skill that went into the brew you bought and please stop clogging the main page with your drain pours and review the beer.

Pretty much every beer-bashing, -praising, and -pouring thread can be better expressed through reviews. Interestingly, these threads tend to garner plenty of responses, but people are reticent to actually review the beer in a "formal" sense on the site. I don't really get it, but I'm also not sweating it too much.

That said: People, please review more. Moreover, use the review pages to determine which beers the community thinks highly of, rather than just starting yet another repetitive thread.

I understand the sentiment of the OP. Though the reason for having a forum is to promote discussion. Reviews are fine. I never use them, as I suspect others do not either. Yet many do. Great!

Discussion of drain pours is fine. Hopefully the discussion will be constructive or educational. One can be critical and respectful at the same time. For many, including myself, that is a challenge. It takes tact.

I would much rather engage in an open discussion than read or write reviews. Sitting down in front of the computer with a beer in hand with the intent to review it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. It felt a hell of a lot more like work than just enjoying the beer and shooting the shit with the folks on the forums. What's the fun in a one-way dialogue on a site with such a huge community? Furthermore, many of the reviews are either 1) barely coherent, or 2) come off as completely masturbatory given the flowery prose of the wannabe cicerones/poets that composed them.

I rarely drain pour anything I've paid good money for, but when I do have something so god-awful horrible that I can't choke it down, I see no problem with bringing it up as a topic. Sure, I can do a simple review of it and give it a bad score, but that doesn't generate much discussion. I'd rather a post prompt responses by people on the same thing, either supporting my impression or debating it. Maybe I had a bad one. Maybe it's just my taste, or maybe I'm not the only one who thought so poorly of the beer, but a simple review that gets no discussion is pretty much just putting my impression out there, which may help the person who reads my review, but doesn't do much for me in return. If I get a lot of responses back with a different opinion than I had, I'm much more likely to give that beer another chance than I would otherwise.

Drainpour threads are still better than vs. threads or is this years batch worse than previous years threads.

People have no respect. There are people drain pouring rochefort 10 and cantillon in that thread. Sometimes i think people just want attention

Drain pour treads don't bother me much, if you get enough agreement it could steer someone away from buying a beer he might not like. The favorite BMC stuff gets old, as far as I can tell not much has changed since 1970, except InBev, and Pabst/Miller buying up smaller breweries.

The drainpour threads don't promote discussion at all, nor do many of the "Favorite IPA (etc.)" threads. Just a bunch of people blurting out the name of a beer.

Thanks Dad. Right in line with your SN.

Promote what you love, don't bash what you hate - unless something positive can be gained from it.

It's less bashing, and more a juxtaposition of user's subjective experiences. It's funny to see a person say they drain poured a beer that you love. Then you can share one that you poured out that someone else thinks is world class.

I don't like people who post to bash, as respect for the work and thought that goes into the beer is VERY important to me. I just like to see which beers other people didn't like. It's interesting to see the differences.

Agreed. I suppose it all depends on the person. Some people like to know what other beers people don't like, while others choose to focus on what they do in fact like. I suppose I'm the latter. While I find it interesting that lots of people love 3Beans and I truly wasn't fond of it, I find it far more uplifting and energizing for the hobby to focus on all the beers I love and WHY I love the ones I do. Additionally, I like knowing why I don't like certain beers, but only to learn more about my own personal tastes.

It's an interesting juxtaposition, absolutely, but I don't find any personal gain or interest from it. With that said, I'll step out of the conversation

I have no problem with them - but then again I don't take myself or beer too seriously.

Reminds me of the "What beer are you drinking now" , "Favorite Can Beer", "Your favorite Dogfish Head Beers" , "Biggest Grapefruit Bomb", "Your top/bottom 3 American Adjunct Lagers", "How many beers have you had from the top 250", Which Beer will replace heady topper", "Which beer tastes like pliny".......

Very true. More information can be gained by reading the reviews by a longshot.
