Advocates don't let advocates drink Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Or that voodoo stuff.

so did I. Not proud of it, but I had no desire to finish it at all.

I think the drain pour threads basically make a point. There are beers a person wouldn't buy again, beers they dislike, and then beers they dislike so much that they don't even want to finish it. That level of dislike is worth a mention, don't you think?
It wouldn't be genuine if we only raved about certain beers, and failed to mention the occasional turd.

I didn't drain pour the 10 but it was too much of an alcohol bomb to me when I tried it. The 8 on the other hand is amazing.

It's not a bad beer... just not for me. In retrospect, I should have cooked with it!

For the record, I do not ever drain pour, unless something is infected or outdated to the point where the beer has spoiled. On occasions when I try a beer that doesn't taste that great on my palate, more often than not it is usually a style of beer that I don't care for. I'm not particularly fond of fruity belgians or sours, but the only way for me to learn about those styles is to sample them, so I just try and keep an open mind in the name of palate education. Then again, I am one of the few BA's that actually enjoy Rogue Voodoo Daddy. In my local homebrew club, we actually encourage members to bring in beer with off flavors so we can get better at identifying them, just as a BJCP would.

The bottom line is, there is no right or wrong here, I'm not going to bash fellow BA's that drain pour, just as I would hope I won't get bashed for liking a bacon doughnut beer that many on here can't stand. It's a free country, folks, live and let live!

I just checked your reviews, and you are indeed a clever writer. Ultimately, I got no problem with folks that write or read reviews, but for me, I just don't see point. There are way too many variables that impact someone's enjoyment of a beer. As such, I have zero interest in anyone's reviews. It's like deciding whether or not to have sex with someone based off of someone else's description. I know what I like and I don't really care what you like.

Even if someone told you that pretty young lady is "infected"?

On topic. To me, I find the beer talk threads in general for the most part useless. Most start out on topic, then someone get their feelings hurt, and ultimately it ends up being about sex. Seriously though, people constantly trying to out do each other and make others look stupid gets old. I like sticking to my regional forum.

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds that annoying (esp. the flowery prose).

    Seriously Principal BeerDad?

For what it's worthy, I tend to agree with you insofar as I've only ever drainpoured one beer in recent memory. But that experience prompted one of the threads that seems to get under your skin. Sure, there were a lot of people who just posted the name of a beer they'd poured, but it also generated (what I found to be) a relatively in-depth discussion of why people think it makes sense to drainpour early and often and others feel you owe it to the brewer to give any beer 12 oz of you attention. In other words, an exchange of ideas on a topic of interest to several people who frequent this site.

I guess my question to you would be:

Whiny threads complaining about threads you personally don't want to read. Why?

This was my favorite line. I was going to say something similar... Drinking a beer isn't an episode of Fear Factor. You're not going to win anything for finishing something you think is awful...

I'm guessing if there was a girl you liked who had a twin sister and someone told you you'd have sex with her :grinning:

I rarely drain pour beers, but when I do, "oh wait that's an add for a drain pour beer". No but really, I pour out a beer every now and again because if you don't enjoy that beer why finish it? I have hundreds of other beers I can drink instead of choking down a beer I don't like. It just isn't worth the time or taste buds to drink bad beer.
