Hi everyone! Just got back from a trip in Sioux Falls and had a few Drekker "Brains" sours. Does anyone know if they show up in the Minneapolis area?
They absolutely do. I’m in W Suburbs and they’re always in coolers of some of the beer havens (Princeton’s, Vinifera, etc ...)
Their sours go very fast. IPAs hang around a bit longer. Ectogasm is easy to find and delicious. They'll keep their social media updated with what they're bringing to the Twin Cities.
I work at a liquor store in Sartell, and we get a Drekker drop about every 3 weeks. We got ours and the sours were gone that day. We do have a few of the IPAs left, but not much.
Drekker generally releases new beer every other Friday at their taproom and distributes the same beers the following Thursday and Friday at Twin Cities liquor stores. Pay attention to their social media for a list of which stores get beer on which day.
I just saw they drop off at a few places close to me on Friday. Will i need to be there before doors open, or is that 'too fast'?
They won’t get to their first drop off point until 9-10 AM so you’ll have to wait for them to get to your local stores.
Call the stores and ask when they usually start to sell them. Some stores will release them at an exact time, others will just start selling them as soon as they arrive off the truck.
I've been to Drekker twice when i was in Fargo. Good beers especially Ectogasm IPA. I'll have to look for them here.
Princeton LQ in Maple Grove had about a case of Ectogasm IPA left 3 days ago. $14.99 per 4pk. Salesperson said it's pretty much the fastest selling beer in their store. That ale is so damn good and unique it's worth that price! Also check Liquor Barrel on Hywy 55 in Golden Valley. Good craft & micro action there. Usually well stocked and fresh but they are a bit expensive. Salute!!
Never been impressed with Drekker. Visited their taproom for the first time in 2015 downtown Fargo and all the beers were meh....homebrew quality. Stopped by their new brewery in Fargo while we were there for a hockey tournament last weekend. Looks like an impressive facility and lots of too go beer available (stupid MN laws). Wish I had time to sit down and try a few things they had on tap and see how they've evolved but we were between games and I didn't feel comfortable drinking at that time since I'm a coach.
Another unsolicited opinion, I am meh on Drekker as well. Most of it probably due to they don't brew styles I like and those of styles I do like were just OK. Phantom Hand is the one exception. That is a fine beer.
I’m a fan of their Fruited Sours, they are great ..Slang Du Jour ,Chonk series especially, IPA/2IPA are good thou they are dry and all taste similar. The BA Stouts are way overpriced and just mediocre.Overall would recommend the brewery as very good.
At this point about 80% of my IPA purchases are Black Stack (as discussed in their separate thread), because I know what I’m gonna get, and I know I’m gonna like it. But, when I am looking for IPAs that are less sweet, a couple of my favorite IPAs this past year have come from Drekker. Most recently I loved Philosophies & Hypotheses. They are less consistent than Black Stack, but I’ve never had anything that wasn’t at least solid. I have only had their IPAs, so no opinion on their sours or stouts.
I've had a request to send some Drekker to Florida from our last drop. I got them at the store I work at, and will FINALLY be able to send it out tomorrow. Drekker is popular. We sell out of the sours almost always on the day of the distro release. We finally sold the last single IPA from the last release Friday. The person who bought said can was happy.
I share your sentiments. I've never understood why they fly off the shelves here and my only thought is that maybe folks haven't had better beers and have nothing to compare them to. The homebrew description is accurate. I know everybody's palate is different but I've been on a quest now to find a single Drekker pint that I would actually finish all the way through. I have been unsuccessful, 7 beers in. Perhaps I'm not trying hard enough but usually I only give a brewery 3 or 4 chances so I feel that's pretty generous. I may keep trying just because to me it's like locking in a Rubik's cube - I gotta figure out why this stuff is so popular and highly rated. Unfortunately they're spendy ventures. $6-7 a can just to eventually dump it, not my idea of a good time. Also being in South Dakota I'd rather not have to go on road trips for my beer hauls but that's what it's come down to. Currently enjoying a Kakigori by Southern Grist. I don't know how they do it. Good discussion! Cheers!
I was in this same thought process. Didn't care for them the first time I had them. Heard enough people talking highly of them I gave them another shot. The sours are very good.
