Depends on were you live and what are your local beer options. Simple as that.

My local brewery is about 2 blocks from me (Bulldog Brewery in Whiting, Indiana) and they are terrible. So when i go to a brewery near me it is usually FFF or One Trick Pony. Both have some great beers (especially FFF) but i am somewhat close to other nice places like Figure 8 and Greenbush is about an hour away.

I agree though. Sometimes you can just drink local because it just isnt enjoyable

If it's good, it's good. I don't have any "homer" loyalties.

I used to live 5 minutes from a place that wasn't very good, so I never went there and gladly drove the thirty minutes to FFF instead (but I'd gladly drive farther than that) . A lot of places are just making a forgettable or less than decent beers; I'm not willing to settle for that just because it's local.

Drinking locally in the STL is thankfully becoming a more interesting proposition with each passing day. Still, I bet most of my purchases come from MI and CA.

I guess it depends on the brewery. For years the only local Tucson brewery was Nimbus and they make a few good beers but nothing really outstanding. In the past 2 years though we have had 2 very good breweries pop up. Dragoon and Borderlands. I love the Dragoon IPA and so does my wife. Right now you can only get them at bars or growler at the brewery. I wish them success enough to go bottled..

So like I said it would depend on how good the local beer is.

Jacksonville's beer scene is getting better by the month it seems so i drink local quite often. It used to be impossible to do this just a few short years ago. The more support good local beer gets the more new good breweries and brew pubs will start popping up.

I sometimes complain that I can't find stuff from Founders or other breweries at the store but truth be told for me local = awesome!!

Ugh, I totally can't stand anything local. It makes me think of this guy that LITERALLY sleeps on the sidewalk like 10 feet from my house. I don't support local beer the same way that I don't support local homelessness. Wake the fuck up and get a job (or get a real brewery!) Local people who think they know how to make beer just disgust me. I have never liked anything from any of them and I wish they would go away already! Just like that fucking disgusting waste of life on the sidewalk....I only drink quality beers. Quality beers that rate VERY highly with BA users.

Living in North Dakota we don't have a brewery because state law doesn't allow it (this should be changed ASAP). A North Dakota "brewery" opened up a couple years ago but they contract their beer to be made in Wisconsin and every beer I've had from them has been nothing better than average for a craft beer.

We literally don't have local beers. I WISH Minnesota companies would be more prevalent here but most of them basically stay in the Twin Cities or else very local to their hometown, other than Summit.

As others have said, I choose local when other factors are more or less equal. I like Victory Headwaters and SNPA pretty equally, and they're about the same price, so I'll usually choose the Headwaters, especially taking freshness into account. But if we're talking SNPA against Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale... yeah I'm gonna go with the Sierra 10 times out of 10. I spend my limited funds on the best/most beer possible. Local-ness is just a tiebreaker.

I do support the brewery down the street from me, but I can't say I really go out of my way to do so. It's more like hey, there are two places within walking distance, should we go to place A and drink Hop Devils for $5.75, or grab a few pints of whatever from place B for $4.25. Plus they're nice guys and I think they have interesting ideas, if maybe the execution isn't all there yet. Plus they only have like 10 other people on Quizzo night so I actually win occasionally, so there's that.

I will always buy the best product for my money. Always. I don't care where it's made.

I'll drink local if it's good. All other things being equal, I'd prefer to support a local business. But if all things aren't equal, then I'll go with the better product.

We've got a mixed bag here in the Twin Cities. On the one hand, we have Surly, Town Hall, and some great new breweries. On the other, we've got some mediocre places that don't seem long for the beer world. I steer away from the latter group, though I will give them a shot once or twice.

Every brewery I buy beer from, local or otherwise, has at least one beer (often many) that are either a style I don't care for in the first place or an example of a style I don't enjoy.

I would be very happy having "local" access to Gratitude when it comes out. Sure, I might not have access to some of the beers I do now, but it isn't a perfect world.

I don't mind drinking local as long as the product is tasty.
If there wasn't anything local that is worthy, then I don't drink it.
    Simple as that.
My cash is spread thin as it it is,I'm not gonna buy some local garbage just to be "local".

Hell,I'd buy beer from Siberia if I liked it enough before I give my hard earned $$ to a inferior local product.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers

ND laws do allow breweries but they are far from brewery friendly.
There are 2 breweries now producing beer in ND and at least 2 probably coming on line in the next month or two and more in the works.

Both of the current breweries started producing beer in the last couple months and are in the Bismarck/Mandan area. Edwinton is a production brewery with kegs going to local bars and Laughing Sun is a brewpub.

For the latest news on beer and beer events in ND and emphasis on the Fargo area, go to FMBeer.com - http://www.fmbeer.com/

Dallas has a bunch of breweries that are or have opened. Explosion of them really. But none of them are great. Maybe one or two great beers among them all... But mediocre mostly. Unfortunately, because of this, many of them will close again.
