Drinking Homebrew - January 2016

    Double oatmeal stout, followed by Oaked smoked magik, finishing with a Belgian IPA.

    Oatmeal stout. Placed at our quarterly homebrew club comp but is actually much improved after 6oz of maltodextrine added to the keg:

    Nice clear Simcoe/ Amarillo IPA even after two 3 oz dry hops:

    Decent IPA, but a little on the boring side, nothing really pops.

    Drinking an orbit pale ale dry hopped with rakau and azacca. Had some month old citrus yeast I pitched. May have contaminated tastes faintly vegetal.

    Yeah, that happens. Had a dunkelweizen that I used a third generation yeast in, and nothing. Added an older lager yeast and still nothing. Then a six or seven month old hefeweizen yeast and it fermented like mad for a month. Very odd flavor from too much dead yeast and likely bacterial infection. I keep Hoping it'll mellow but not likely.
