With the selection of beers these days it's impossible to keep drinking the same beer over and over again. Maybe I'll go through a short phase of drinking the same types of beer but never the same one over and over again. Hell it took me almost a year to get the usual badge (15 of the same beers in a month) on untappd. And that was only because I was in Vermont so drinking Heady's like water was very understandable.

Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, would buy it by the case, still do, from time to time. Never got tired of the tart clove, and banana. I did however have to mind the yeast, too much of the yeast would keep me preoccupied with other bodily functions.

I but Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout by the 6-pack once a week. It's a must have beer on hand at all times that I find myself having more than often.

I never get tired of this. My neighbors are from Ohio. Every time they take a trip home, I have them load me up with it.

I may buy a bomber, four or six pack of a particular beer more frequently, like with fall seasonal beers or a one off or taproom only release. But I don't understand the one beer for everything rut some people happily get involved in.

I get into a pattern about 3 times a year, and drink Squatter's Hop Rising, Uinta Hop Nosh and Sixpoint Resin for weeks. I seem to need to recharge my Belgian and German beer desire occasionally through copious doses of IPA sexiness.
Side note, but the new Squatters can art/coloration? Not a fan.

I don't think it's such a bad thing. I have gotten hooked on a beer for a while and then over time gone back to trying everything under the sun.

    This is a good thread.

I've been so sick of the "_____ has fallen off" or "_____ really disappointed me" or, I really hate these threads, "I feel guilty because I drink too much" threads that this is a very grounding thread and I'm happy to see it, especially when the OP is stuck on a class bier like Weinstephener.

Coming from a guy who has had at least a thousand different beers, probably closer to 1500 at this point in my 20 something years of drinking, there is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking what you like. Drinking shouldn't be about ticking, or finding your whale (BRO!) or about trying to impress people it should be about enjoying what you drink, enjoying yourself, kicking back and relaxing and, when possible, sharing with your fellow drinker.

Im not trying to ruffle any feathers and I'm not saying what I think is the end all, be all....if you want to tick and go for whales, that's fine, but it should be about drinking what you like and enjoying yourself and relaxing. Not making yourself all crazy. I like trying new stuff if I can, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with going with an old standby or, even, the same beer over a period of time. Whatever makes you happy. That's what drinking should do and how it should make you feel. Not a neurotic or overly judgmental drinker.

I don't drink anywhere near as frequently, at least compared to when I first joined BA, but when I know I'm going out for a meal or to a beer bar to catch up with friends, I'll generally go out of my way to find something new to try from the draft list. This is mostly because I know I'm only going to have one beer - maybe two at max if it's a special occasion and not too late - for the entire evening, and will be the only evening I have a drink all week, so I take that as my golden opportunity to try something new.

On the other hand, if I'm headed to a BYOB cookout/family party, etc., I usually stick to something tried and true. Then I usually end up having 2/3 of a 6pk sitting in my fridge for weeks afterwards haha. So I typically stick to stouts that I enjoy - something that I know whose flavor will hold up if it stays untouched in the fridge for a month or two.

I used to rotate among a few "entry level craft beers". I'd buy a 12 by Leinienkugels one week, then one by Samuel Adams next, then perhaps a Point ... and repeat. With the boom of small (and local) breweries, I'm tending to get a set of different individual bombers with a mix of the latest from a brewery I like and trying new things.

Fat Head's Head Hunter is my go-to. I am at the point now where it's getting harder and harder to find beer that I want to try or can afford to try. But, I still always try to find something else.

It's more of a seasonal thing for me - when New GLarus Snowshoe comes out seasonally I always have some of that in the fridge. Same thing with the NG Blacktop when it's being brewed.
I'm always seeking out something new to try, but in a pinch my go to beers when nothing else catches my eye are Three Floyd's Alpha king and Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA.

I have a dozen breweries within 10 miles of my house... I can't limit myself to 1 beer, near impossible.

The only time I get even close to this is when Celebration comes out. I usually stick to it for a couple of weekends before I go back to variety.

After about 10 years (a little more than half of that on BA), I haven't switched from finding something new every time. Repeat purchases, sure, but I feel I may always be in a mood for discovery.
