Hell I'm opening a Black Tuesday for the Eagles game after Thanksgiving... But I guess that fits as a special occasion since I'll be tailgating.

McCoy is single-handedly carrying my fantasy team on his back into the playoffs (especially since I had Aaron Rodgers at QB). If he delivers again next week, I might just open up something nice too.

Thanksgiving is perfect if you have a good crew together. My family always does and we drink very nice wine, tons of beers of all kinds, and have a genuine smorgasbord of great food options. My son always brings some cool Belgian or Belgian types, and JW Lees is a staple and is never, ever is disappointing to anyone. If one cannot share these great beers, what damned good are they?

If I bought a whale, I would name it Willy and I would train him to jump over me on a coast somewhere. Oh wait, you mean Whales. I have not gotten my hands on one, but I would try to save it for a special occasion. But I would probably just end up drinking it during a Penguins game.

I don't know if I have "whalez" in my collection other than 09 Utopias. (which was recently opened and enjoyed)

What I don't understand is spending all your time and money trading and getting this rare beer and end up drinking 3oz of it at a bottle share.

Love sharing on special occasions especially since I am not home with family but once a month or so… So I get home and crack one of my wales every time I'm home… Thanksgiving I'm cracking KBS, Black Tuesday '12, BCBCS, and probably some Zombie to share with the fam!

My brothers won't be bringing any but what the hell… love to share and experience these wonderful beers with family… Especially for Holidays.

There will be plenty more of that for Christmas. Maybe I'll finally crack my prairie bomb! and some '09 bombers

I save them for special occasions, bottle shares, etc... my rate of rare whale acquisition is pretty low, but I have all kinds of stuff I'm hanging onto for a year or more "to see how it develops".

From my cellar: I've had a four year vertical of Abyss, three-year verticals of Firestone Anniversary beers, two to four year old RIS's and so on. If I had a real whale, I'd probably have a gathering for the occasion.

Which reminds me, I need to have a horizontal of last year's Eclipse. I managed to get them all when they came out. Need to do the same with the Sierra Nevada anniversary beers from 2010; I have one of each and, believe it or not, I've never tasted them fresh.

Don't let this be you, kids; drink your beer and stop hoarding it!

I could never bring myself to not drink a beer that I just acquired. It's just not in my nature.

You can't show up to 'rare' tastings without 'rare' stuff... maybe your personality is better than mine though. Bringing whales, fromage, and a good attitude is the best way to expand your network/ get invited back.

Because you wind up with 3oz of about 20 different amazing beers. Honestly, I have never been to a bottle share and didn't get back more than my money's worth. They are always a blast and, when I first started really getting into collecting, they expanded my horizons at an exponential rate.

I opened my Stone Barrel Aged Ken Schmidt / Maui / Stone Kona Coffee Macadamia Coconut Porter when I purchased my first house. On my first night in the house, I popped the cork and enjoyed the hell out of that bitch with my lady.

Drinking the beer IS the special occasion (yes, that is from the film Sideways) but it is also true.
