Don't need a reason! Or blame buzz as he told me to!

I don't understand the point in having them without any intention of drinking them. With that being said, I'm saving a couple of mine for special occasions (wedding anniversary, birthday). Another I plan to trade to procure others I WANT to drink/share with fellow beer drinkers. If it comes to be that I'll never get those, then I just have another I'll end up drinking one day, or sharing.

    1) Some beers need to age. But dammit, beer is for drinking, not saving.
    2) When do I drink my whales? Whenever the hell I want. They are mine. I do like to share though.
    3) No special occasion needed, although it does make a special occasion that much more special.

Once I got over the whole "wale" thing I just stopped caring. It's just beer. I drank all the rarest beers I had stored away in the cellar, in a matter of months *shrug*. Now whenever I acquire something special or rare I drink it within a few weeks. Especially if it's something I've never had. If I have multiples I might put some away for cellaring or trade for other unique stuff that I haven't had before. I'm not married to any of my bottles anymore. It's very liberating.

It depends on the definition of whale.

Small whales: Whenever I want. Black Tuesday is an example.
Killer whales: A very special occasion. 2007 Abyss is an example.

The birth of my daughter only qualified as a small whale event.

My theory is "If you got it, drink it."
I enjoy sharing special beers. So I rarely drink whales by myself.
I got tired of waiting for my brother to come over, so I drank the only bottle of Darkness I had by myself.

Beers, whales or otherwise, are best when shared or enjoyed. But DRINK them! They dont taste good in a bottle.

I pour a glass and then drain pour the rest. Two reasons:

    1. It's a small thank you to my drain for the other crap I put into it (via the garbage disposal).
    2. It tastes even more rare having less.

Usually whenever we can get people together. Last Wednesday we opened a BVDL just because we were finally all in the same place at the same time.

I use them to fuel my car.

Obviously that was a joke. I look for good people to drink them with. I usually do well in that department.

I don't need a special occasion. In fact I find I often drink mine alone at night when I can just sit down and quietly enjoy it alone. I do share with close friends though as well.

Finished off a Pliny and Blind Pig last night...maybe not the biggest of whales, but they were good. Shared a Heady with my son last week...hey, these things were made to drink and enjoy.

Any beer that you can buy in a store is not a Whale.
Would you consider Tyranena's Doubly Down 'N Even Dirtier a Whale since it was a limited brewery only release? If yes, then I have been drinking a Whale every week for 8 weeks straight, and still have 10 bottles remaining.

You left out the pack of P funks in the background that was used to clean the pallet before pouring.
