So I'm headed back out west from DC later next week and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of one or two cool things to hit up on the way. I would like to make the trip as quick as possible but I'm wondering if there might be a brewery or bottle shop that could be worth hitting up no more than 15 min from my route.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Check it here:

Hit up Bearden Beer Market in Knoxville, one of my friends said that was a good place to go. Other than that, looking at your map I can't help you otherwise.

Awesome, thank you for the suggestion. I'm hoping to get a bunch of suggestions and ideas so I can see where I want to stop for the night based off of good beer spots..

Don't tell the fiance though. She might wonder why I'll want to stop after a few hours driving. "Oh look babe there's a cool looking bottle shop over there!"

Stop by Winston Salem, NC Foothills brewing and them make your way to Asheville, NC on your way west. It's a nice little detour.

Definitely jealous of your trip. I've ALWAYS wanted to drive across the country, but never had a good enough reason to pull the trigger.

You being from VA, you might have already visited this, but the Vintage Cellar shop in Blacksburg has a surprisingly good collection of bottles, and maybe a few you won't see up in northern VA. I strolled in there a few weeks back and saw the latest Enjoy By just chilling on the shelf. It should only be 10 minutes or so off your beaten path if you need a break at that point.

Thank you guys for the suggestion. NC might be a little far out of the way so early in the trip. Vintage Cellar looks cool and pretty close to the highway so I will have to keep that in mind for sure.

Two years ago I came out here in a budget truck and it was quite the experience. I was able to pick up about a case of random beers (mostly in Colorado) but it was a lot of fun drinking them once I got to Va and settled in. This trip we are taking our car so it should be a much more comfortable and slightly quicker trip. It's kind of hard to justify spending too much time drinking other beer knowing I'll only be a few days away from San Diego.

I was looking at a similar plan...from Portland,OR to New York...with my brother. I am using beermapping.com to plan out brewery stops. I think they have bottle shops and brewpubs too?

Looks like it's only brewery's and brewpubs, as well as maybe restaurants. Thank you though this will be a great asset for the trip!
