Rumors now in print (at least, the first I've seen) North Aurora huge facility to can Dry Dock goodness later this year http://blogs.westword.com/cafesociety/2012/05/dry_dock_brewing.php
That totally made my day when I read that yesterday. Increased production, canning, and keeping the old location for bbl aged, sour, and experimental brews....so happy. Great idea to go ahead and buy a space big enough to house a 100bbl brew house, so IF they get that big, they don't have to go through the BS of finding a new spot again, moving, new equipment, permits...so on and so forth. Like we say in the car tuning world, do it once, do it right.
Only one thing i want to know. Will they be putting a date on those cans? I refuse to buy the DIPA because they don't date there bottles... Which sucks because this is a great beer i really enjoy. But i have been burned too many times
Great news as far as the enabling the current brewhouse to focus on their barrel aged beer. The locale is out in BFE. Though I suppose I can swing in on the way to the airport. Actually I see many missed flights in my future...
Yup, I think that might one of the many things they're shooting for. People coming and going to the airport. As long as they keep the current location up and running I'm psyched. Those barrels are taking up more and more of the tasting room, so I guess it's no surprise they're going to be a bigger focus. They have a pretty interesting barrel aged strong ale on tap right now. I'm guessing it's a new barrel as there's a ton of wood to it.
This is my understanding...the current location will be for tasting, drinking, barrelling, and experimental brewing. The new location will initially be only for production, with a potential tasting room in the future. I also asked when I was there if the initial intention was to hook up with a/mulitple distributor(s) - they currently self distribute - or if the increased production was soley for the current footprint (keep self distribution). Don't know if the guy behind the bar knew for sure, but sounds like initially they are going to continue to self distribute even the increased production. YEE HAW COLORADO!!!!
I havent really had any issues. Although, I pretty much just buy it at Argonaut on my way out of work. They run through their stock very quickly.
Same here as FPM above. But the brewery is on my way home, so usually pretty fresh there. But let me go on the record as I would definitely prefer if they were dated.
The beer you mentioned was aged in a Stranahan's barrel that was previously used to make Bligh's. They decided to retire it after that beer. It's in my basement being used as a tasting table right now.
Pretty cool! Not sure of the hows and whys, but that beer has a strong wood taste with very little whiskey to it. Definitely a unique one, but still tasty. DD has definitely changed a bit over the last year (since Doug and Ashleigh have been doing more), but I'm digging what they're doing. Lots of beers that are under 6%, but still sporting lots of flavor, and the old ale is better than ever. I think Bill living his dream might actually end up being better for everyone.
Oh, no sh*t? I haven't tried it in a while (too many other options....well, not too many I guess). Love me some olds and will grab some the next time we home brew. Gotta drink while brewing!
