Hey guys, I'm going to brew a dipa here in a couple days, and was thinking about not using hop sacks when I go to dry hop. I plan on using alot of hops (pellets) it's a PTE clone. Any thoughts or suggestions.
    Thanks

Just do a good job siphoning and you should be all set.

On a large amount with pellets, I'd use hop sacks. You can filter just by putting a strainer over the auto siphon too:

I do that all the time in the fermenter. The only time I use a bag is in a keg.

I've tried this with a nylon stocking and it would just clog. Looks like you have a good siphon going, Nice!
To the OP: cold crashing will help as well.

Yeah you have to make sure you use a tip on the racking cane that makes a good space between the strainer and the opening so it doesn't clog. You can also swirl it a bit or bang it against the side if it slows down.

I use a sanitized nylon mesh bag to line my bottling bucket. I siphon into the bucket, not worrying if I pick up a few hop particles during the process. When the siphon is finished I pull out the bag, leaving behind perfectly clear beer. The credit for this solution goes to HomeBrew42 I believe.

Thanks, going to try and use a nylon bag to strain when I siphon out of the fermentor. I have some 1gls paint strainer bags that should work. I may also cold crash, but I worry that it might make it to clear for a PTE clone....like to get that "hazy" appearance that Pliney has.

I use pellets for the dry hop. I don't filter or anything...most of it settles to the bottom. I move it from the carboy to the plastic fermenter and bottle from that so I don't accidentally bottle sediment. It's a little bit of extra work, but it's worth it.

I toss the pellets in, and do the bag over the siphon.. Works the best.

I don't use any filter or bags for either pellets or whole hops. I just make sure I don't disturb the beer prior to siphoning, all the hops stay at the top or bottom. Just carefully put the siphon in and try not to stir anything up, always come out clear.

If you do decide to muslin bag your hop pellets, I recommend splitting them in half and placing them in two separate hop bags for better contact. Of course commando would give you the best contact.
