Anyone ever had the privilege of adding dry hops to a carbed keg? that was a fun little experience I just endured.
I couldn't figure out why those fuckers wouldn't sink for the life of me. Gave them a little prodding and Mount Vesuvius ensued.
That reminds me of an old commercial where the ‘punchline’ was: “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature”. Cheers!
Anyone know if the hops will eventually drop below the surface of the beer? I used a stainless steel spoon as a weight.
I just dry hopped some pellets to a primary fermenter for the first time recently. They floated when I put them in, but I left it alone, and they did eventually sink. I don't know whether your carbonation would make much difference, but I'd assume that they'd sink once they soaked up the wort.
If you had a spare muslin bag on hand, you could put the hops in it along with a sanitized weight of some kind to force them to sink to the bottom.
Your carbonation is keeping the bag, spoon and all, floating on the surface? Wow. Umm.....have any more spoons?
Flip the keg upside down so they are stuck in the middle as they try to "float" to the new "top" again.
More spoons would probably do it. I use several stainless steel washers, and that's for uncarbonated beer.
I managed to get the lid back on before the maelstrom escaped the keg, but have witnessed this when adding hops to an already carbonated beer(dry hopping a saison that needed a little something extra post carbonation).
haha nice, I hurried to get the lid on and in my haste it wasn't aligned too well and when another 30 PSI hit it made for even more clean up .
I added lactose to a carbonated keg to try something out. I wasn't thinking, about to go to bed, thought I'd drop it in and let it sit overnight. Keg was warm, bled the pressure, dumped in the sugar, and before I could react it was rising. I put the lid on but couldn't seal it, so I bent over the top to keep the fountain from spraying everywhere in my garage, and obviously soaked myself in the process. Then had to clean up after it, and an hour later finally got to bed. Beer turned out good though!
