With some ales, I've been getting a strong dry roasted peanut/peanut buttery flavor. Sometimes it even reminds me of gouda cheese. Victory Summer Love Ale and Sierra Nevada's Floral IPA from beer camp have been some recent offenders. However, I've gotten it in some larger IPAs, but more subtle: Meadowlark from Pretty Things had a touch of it. If I recall, White Rajah from Brew Kettle might have had the flavor. I'm guessing it's the malt causing the flavor. I've checked the malts on these beers, and there doesn't seem to be a consistent culprit. Anyone?

Interesting. Usually I get that from certain dunkelweizens. I assumed it was the malts.

Just taste the malt myself. Which tastes like bread to me most of the time.
