Is this even possible? I ask not for myself but for my uncle who started brewing and lives in Argentina where liquid yeast is hard to come by if it is even available. I don't think he can get White Labs or Wyeast down there. So has anyone brewed a Saison or any Belgian beer for that matter with dry yeast? If so what yeast and how did it come out?

Safbrew S-33 and Safbrew T-58 are both said to be Belgian strains. I have used neither but thats what a quick search turned up.

Thanks I found that info too but would like to hear from those who have used those or other dry yeasts.

Totally not an answer to your question, but I think a relevant comment:

He could culture up the dredges from a comercial bottle of Saison...

You have forgotten I live in Argentina.I have used both yeast T58 and S33 , both are good yeasts producing very complex flavor but have one defect... it is necessary to age beers for several months until bubblegum flavor has melted down.As the case is they are Belgian or Saison beers it won`t be a problem because you need to age them anyways.

I know where to buy liquid yeast in Argentina, tell your uncle he could mail me here [email protected] to ask me whatever he needs.

True. But he just started brewing and probably wouldn't want to tackle that quite yet. On top of that finding a commercial bottle of Saison in Argentina is probably not very easy. Remember this is malbec country.
