Going to DTLA for a 3 day conference. Mostly free the first afternoon then for the next 2 days only free after 5p (possibly at mercy of co-workers). As we're staying near the Convention Center, I kind of wanted to keep my ventures within the loop that is 10/110/101. In several other threads, I've seen strong recs for Highland Park (probably farther than I want to go) and Creature Comforts (now on my list). I'm easily walkable to Audio Graph. On my mostly free day I'm thinking of wandering around the museum area & Grand Central Market and b/c I love cocktails too, ending at The Wolves. I could see a car over to Angel City since it's very near Death & Co. After that first day, my free time is only after 5p.

QUESTION - in this area, where would I find the best retail selection and are there any bars with major (local) tap lists. I see a lot of calls for Whole Foods, so I know where that is - anything else? On the bar side, I see First Draft in my area, but it's a pour your own with just as much regional/national stuff as local.

Beelman's isn't all that far from the CC and tends to have a good list. Honestly I don't think you'll miss much by skipping Angel City... Wolves is a cool spot for a cocktail for sure, hope you enjoy it!

As @Jesseix said, don’t bother with Angel City. Don’t skip HpB. HpB is overpriced, IMO but probably worth it compared to the other breweries in the DTLA area. When are you going? HpB should have their fresh hop hello LA mid October or before.

Weird Beers and BuzzBeer both are as good as it gets for you for to go stuff.

    Dtla is a shit area.

Native Son is close if you're into that kinda shit. Been there once and never went back

Beelmans is OK for beer but good for the hard stuff .

I like Audiograph they have a decent Helles right now.

Angel City is shit. Buy a 211 instead.

    Arts District is whatever.

Creature Comforts isn't worth going into Skid Row for No matter what hipsters say.

HpB is hypeboi heaven, prolly your best bet.
If you can walk to Audiograph then you can walk to train that leaves you a 5 min walk to HpB
Then walk to Homage for loud music and a decent lager.

Take the train to Replikant Shell in pasadena if you want anything worth your time if you're looking for the hype stuff

Whole foods used.to be great now theyre a shadow of themselves, but they have a lot of Russian River stuff.

What exactly are you looking for?

Homie just rips into LA but earlier today in text (we have that kind of relationship ) he tells me that LA and SD beer is better than OC. Called me a terf boi too! Love you too, big boi. Kisses.

Sorry for highjacking your thread, friend. But when you go to HpB, make sure to hit Phillipe’s for a lamb French dip. It’s where they originated and are the best you’ll ever find.

Creature Comforts is where I'd go for quality beer. Angel City is in a cool building and worth checking out too but the beer is not too good.

There's a guy who's been making beers at Native Son DTLA under the Ikasu Brewing name, and it's pretty solid stuff. The only downside is that the other beers offered at Native Son, which aren't brewed by him, aren't really good and the place has an off vibe.

Melody Lounge in Chinatown actually has a decent, local tap list.

There's also Arrow Lodge Brewing down the street from Death & Co.

It's been mentioned already, but a lot of the places other people have brought up are easily accessible with the Metro Rail. So don't limit yourself to what's immediately close by or bother with a ride share.
