We will be staying the weekend North of Charlotte (Huntersville) next weekend to attend the Carolina Renaissance Faire. Question 1. Where are some good brew pubs for dinner Friday and Saturday?
Question 2. What good bottle shops should I hit? Since I am fairly new to craft beer also, what can I get up in NC that I can't get back home in Georgia? Would be a shame to have a chance at something great and not know! I prefer porters, strong ales & stouts btw. And pretty much up for anything barrel aged.
Thanks in advance y'all !

Not sure about brew pubs in the Huntersville area, so I can't help you there. If you're coming into Charlotte, the closest bottle shop I'd recommend is Salud. It's in NoDa so it's still near downtown, but on the north side of it.

As for beers you can't get there... Definitely anything from NoDa (Hop Drop and Jam Session cans), Olde Hickory (Irish Walker is highly recommended right now), Pisgah (chocolate stout just recently dropped)... Big Boss, Foothills, LoneRider all have 12 ouncers that are worth grabbing. Also, if you come across anything from Fullsteam, I definitely recommend that. I'm not sure what breweries make it to Georgia, but this is just a list of some NC breweries that I don't believe distribute there.

Ditto the above about Duckworth's...except I like their food, the Philly with egg is really good, but my favorite is the fried pickles and double cheese burger...they have 120 or so beers on tap. Total Wine is right down the street as is Taco Mac, Ass Clown Brewing, and if you like BBQ Mac' Speed Shop is one exit up and is really good.

If you drive through or to Charlotte Brawley's, Salud, and Good Bottle Co are not far off the highway, here a map I made of the area: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msi...ll=35.439414,-80.787964&spn=0.274121,0.468292

He's in Cornelius, but it's close! Also, D9 Brewing just opened a few doors down from him. If you visit on a Friday night (that's the only time D9's open), you can catch them both.

You might also want to check out Crafty Beer Guys (a bar and bottle shop) in Huntersville, or Davidson Beverage Company in nearby Davidson. If you are heading to Charlotte proper, there are many more bottle shops and breweries (some have been mentioned).

Lol, I live down in Union County (some of which is still dry!), so it's all "up by the lake" to me.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Hey, I do, too! Born and raised Union Co. resident that just happens to work in Charlotte and spend a little too much time writing about its beer scene.
