Just found out I have to travel to Dubuque for a few and days wondering if there's any decent bottle shops or at least a good bar to check out? I did a search of old threads and things don't look too promising but maybe things have improved? Thanks!
Benefit to Dubuque is it is on the Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois border. The local hyvee liquor store in Dubuque don't have a huge selection, but they did just started getting some TG stuff. I know Sids liquor store in Dubuque just got a shipment of TG pseudo sue, golden nugget, rover truck in today. Like mentioned before, family beer has the biggest selection in the area, which is right across the bridge in Illinois. Vans also has decent selection and it is a mile away from family beer. I would say lot one is the best beer bar in that area. There are a bunch of other bars within a couple blocks of lot one that have ok beer selections too (the lift, 1st and main, monks). Shoot me a message if you want anymore details.
Second this! They have a pretty good selection of stuff we don't see in Iowa. You could also head up to Plateville to get some New Glarus stuff.
Thanks, but coming from Madison, I'll pass on the Pville idea Though it's been a long time since I ate at Steve's Pizza. Might be time to visit it again.
Definitely hit Family Liquor. They have lots of Firestone Walker and also had Revolution from Chicago. They also let you mix and match everything (which means some if the beer is all over the place)!
Was back home visiting family this weekend and stopped in to Jubeck brewing for the first time; color me impressed. Grabbed a flight and enjoyed everything they had. Sure there not the most sexy styles, but they had one of the better blonde ales and regular stouts I've had in some time. Also there was a peaches and cream, cream ale on tap that I thought was excellent. Excited to have good beer being brewed in that town.
I want to thank you for the Family Beer suggestion - holy crap it was good! Driving up it looked like a bust, but I left with $250 worth of goodies and a big smile. The biggest surprise was the Almanac Farmers Reserve and the closeout priced Boulevard BB Quad. Also made it to Monks and had a cpl Crooked Staves - great place to unwind after a day of meetings. Thanks again!
