It has a gross artificial sweetener taste to it that completely put me off it. Was a total letdown. I think that puts me in the "hate" category.

Does anyone know if they still make Colossus? I have a bottle from ~2011 just hanging out in my cellar. I have no plans to open it any time soon unless I can land another one.

Well, not recently. The last batch of Colossus was brewed back in 2011. My recollection is that that they did two limiited bottlings of the 06 batch, and then came out with a much larger batch in 2011. The website gives a brief history of the beer, but there's no mention of any plans to brew a new batch.

I wouldn't say I hated it, so much as I was let down by it. I was expecting much more peanut butter and/or chocolate to come across, and I didn't get that at all. The aromas from the beer far exceeded the taste of the beer. Mostly, it would have benefited from being more concentrated in flavor and body, if you ask me.

put me in the "hates SBJ" camp. i bought a sixer, tried one, couldn't believe how unimpressive it was, tried another to be certain, and the dislike was confirmed. i now have 4 singles to trade and/or give away... i won't be drinking the rest. PM me if interested.

Love SBJ, looking forward to Cocoa Fuego and Dirty Little Freak coming soon as well. Had SBJ on cask conditioned with coconut, it was crazy good.

I enjoyed SBJ, but I have to agree with you, the smell does far surpass the taste. I was able to taste some of the chocolate but it was far more prevalent than any peanut butter.

Definitely. I like it quite a bit, but I've seen quite a few people that really dislike it.

I've never really been impressed by DuClaw. SBJ is probably the best I've had from them. Hellrazer is average, and I thought the same about Euphoria. I haven't had the others you mentioned. I do like Oz, but it looks like you didn't get that one.

House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA, carried both Founders BS and Terrapin WnB last time I was in there. Pretty cool place.

I personally didn't care for it, and I think it depends on the OP's taste in stouts. If he likes incredibly sweet, boozy, heavy chocolate and bourbon flavored stouts, then he'll likely be a fan of Retribution. For me, I just found it to be too much of a good thing. The sweetness was just completely over the top.

I don't know if DuClaw still brews Colossus, but I know where some are still on the shelf, here in Maryland. Even at a price tag of $25 to $30, I think that I'm going to have to pick up a bottle or two....

Count me in the column of those who like/really like SBJ. I also really, really like Euphoria, Mad Bishop (DuClaw's Oktoberfest offering), Repent (a Belgian Strong Dark Ale) and Twisted Kilt (a Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy).

And both Retribution and Devil's Milk are fantastic in my opinion! Devil's Milk is one of my favorite barley wines, and the bourbon barrel-aged version is spectacular in my opinion. The bourbon barrel-aged version has now been released in 12 ounce bottles, under the name Hell on Wood.
