I love Devils Milk, it is one of my favorite local Barleywines. Have any MD BA's had the Oak aged version? Apparently there is not much of this to go around either.

I was about to ask the same question bum732. When they released it last year I thought it was a draft only beer, and if memory serves, it was quite limited at that.

Anyway, yes I did have it, and I thought it one of the better beers I've had from DuClaw. The barrel aging added an additional layer of flavor, and I thought also helped to tame some of the heat I picked up in the regular version.

Yes, I just saw that there is a bourbon barrel aged version of this beer. When I had the beer last May at Max's, the beer menu simply listed it as the barrel aged DM. The only thing I saw on BA that seemed to fit that description was DM aged in Jack Daniel's barrels, so that's what I wrote my review for. So I guess this year's version is aged in different barrels than last year's version? Who really knows. Anyway, the current version is definitely bottled, based on what I've seen on BA. However, it may or may not be different from last year's version.

Seems like a number of places around town have been having DuClaw related events of late, so hopefully I'll get to try the current version and can compare.

I just called the bottle shop I frequent and the beer guy said there are only 20 cases in the whole state and they are getting 1 case sometime today or tommorrow . I have never had a Barrel aged version of this and am so curious to try some

So this ISN'T the Heaven Hills barrel-aged version that was released a few months back? I'm so confused.

Had a bottle and thought it was great...would love to get another.

Did they mention what the price is going to be?

Soul Jacker sounds pretty interesting as well. Hopefully I'll come across some of that as well.

He did not know how much it was gonna cost yet( I asked) but he said it would be a high mark up because of the rarity of it

"he said it would be a high mark up because of the rarity of it"

I guess that tells us what store this is. They do have a pretty extensive selection of DuClaw beers, so I guess this makes sense. At "normal" stores, Retribution sells for $15 a bottle, while Soul Jacker sells for $11. So I'm assuming normal mark-up should probably be in that range somewhere. Of course if we're talking about the store I assume we're talking about, my guess their price will be in excess of $20, and possibly in excess of $30.

I'm just amazed that a salesperson would say something like that (scarcity/rareness = a higher than normal mark-up).

Sigh.... but that's completely different. Beers that are limited, barrel aged, or have otherwise been treated in some unusual manner... a high price tag is almost expected. For instance, if the Perfect Pour had simply charged the normal retail price for their bottles of GI rare, we would all agree that the cost is high (in the $40 range), but the mark-up would have been seen as relatively reasonable. However, their mark-up was so ridiculously high that it made their sale price seem almost ludicrous ($99 a bottle is what I heard).

Hence my initial suspicion that was the store you were talking about. If there are only 20 cases for all of Maryland, then I would be shocked if the PP didn't put some obscene mark-up on the beer. It's what they do.

Also, while I've only gone there a couple of times, they typically do have a huge DuClaw selection, so you'd almost expect that they would receive some of the barrel aged devil's milk.

I called perfect pour today and they did not have any, I was in the area earlier today. The shop by my house was the one that said they would be getting some, Fishpaws in Arnold

I would give much to have a store as cool as Fishpaws near my house. I nearly did backflips the other day when I finally found a place that carries bombers of Double Jack.

I feel fairly certain that I won't be seeing any bottles of oaked DM out in West Baltimore County.

Just picked up 1 of each of the Soul Jacker and Oak DM at 14 a piece. Not as bad as I thought it was gonna be, the Divine Retribution was around $30 if I remember correctly . I don't want to wait to drink them but I think I should
