Heading up to Duluth with the family next weekend & hoping to have a beer or two & get input on where we should go for that (& good food).

Already on the radar is Fitger's (can't go to Duluth without stopping), Carmody's Irish Pub, & perhaps a trip up to Castle Danger.

I'd be really interested in any feedback on good bars and/or good restaurants (with or without good beer). Hell, good liquor store too, if possible. Thanks!

Fitger's and Carmody's are great choices.

If you are going up on Friday, give Superior Brewing a call and they will give you a tour if you show up before they close.

Thirsty Pagan over the bridge in Superior had some good brews and some that were just okay, but it's kind of a cool place. Everyone there was ordering their pizza which looked amazing, but I did not have the opportunity to try it.

Their beers are hit and miss but the pizza is quite good. The owners of the B&B my wife and I stayed at highly recommended we go there for the pizza and we weren't disappointed.

Edit: Agreed on Fitgers and Carmody.

Mmmm, pizza sounds good, I'll put the Thirsty Pagan on our list, too. Might not be able to make it to all of them, which just means we'll have to plan another weekend...

Not beer, but if you're willing to make a drive for some amazing pizza, you should check out Shamrock Pizza in south Superior (5825 Tower Ave). You would never know it by looking at the place, but some of the best pizza in the Midwest. The style is difficult to define. If you go make sure you have at least one pizza with their smoked pepperoni.

Yeah, Thirsty Pagan would have awesome beer if they were all just thicker. The taste is there. Their chicken wild rice soup (stacked full with barely any broth!) and Pizza when we were there are just awesome! Worth going.

This place is on the spendy side, but it is amazing: http://www.newsceniccafe.com

Definitely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to.

Doesn't Fitger's have a new place open now?

Anchor Bar! Seriously, this place is great. Its in Superior, about 5 minutes away from Thristy Pagan. Super cheap, really good burgers. Otherswise, there is that whole Clyde Iron Works/Barons Fitgers bar that just opened. Havent been there but it sounds interesting. Fitgers Burrito Union is fun as well. Sir Benedicts is a cool joint with some good stuff on draft also. They have had Dubrue and Castle Danger on draft there in the past.

Burrito union has some good breakfast burritos. They are owned by Fitgers I believe and have a few of their beers on tap.

I was there in January and they had two different beers that they claim to brew. I read it on there website but there was no mention on their beer menu and when I asked our waitress, she didn't seem to really know if they made it there or not. Both beers were good though. One was an import stout and I think the other was a pale ale.

Good time to head up. According to facebook they should have their very limited quad ipa avail whilst you are there.

I've been to Carmody. The house beer was just okay, a couple were a bit off, but nothing horrible. The bar itself is a lot of fun though, and they have a good selection of non house beers. I'd defenetly go again, maybe not for their own beer, but because it's a pretty good bar.

Excellent. Quad-quintuple whatever IPA sounds good right now.
