Missing from my statement was "from outside New England", Honey Dew is also a local franchise. Although if not for their diabeetus-inducing cinnamon stick I would probably have never gone there.

Oh ok. People bashing DD coffee need to realize that HD dounts and food there are even worse. Just dreadful stuff.

Lots of hate for this in this thread. I love DD coffee as well as coffee porters, so I I will be giving this a try if I can find it.

I mean our state as a whole creams over the DD coffee. Pun intended. It's Bud light. You can't really beat it but only eat into it . The coffee game at least in southern NH is maybe the weakest in the country. MA isn't far behind .

Does anyone remember Mr. Donut from the 1980's? It was a fairly popular chain that started in Boston, and I remember seeing quite a few of them in RI at the time. Now they are completely gone from the US, but are a fairly common chain in Japan and Thailand.

Also, did any fellow BA's ever try this from a few years back? My overall impression was that it was bland, underfermented and too bitter. It came packaged in 16 ounce cans as a six pack. Pretty much a drain pour.

I definitely remember them and very interesting that they still exist in japan/Thailand! Donut Maker is another 80s chain that has gone the way of the dodo (don't know if they've had a second life in Southeast Asia). One of the my oldest friends worked at the Donut Maker in the town I grew up in when we were in high school (late 80s). They never made a beer to my knowledge but good lord did we eat a lot of day old donuts that were otherwise headed to the dumpster.

It turned into a DD in about 1990 and has been one ever since.

ETA: I do remember that Narragansett beer but never tried it.

Not a DD fan, but as far as coffee porters go this could be light, creamy and very drinkable. Will give it a shot if its available and cheap.

I can think of at least three Tim Hortons in Maine that opened, lasted maybe six months and are now closed. Never set foot in one.

Soon enough, we'll see a WaWa Coffee Stout from one of the many PA/Philly regional breweries.

Don't come at me with Sheetz, either.

That's a brilliant product design. The Dunkin' donut rests comfortably on the Harpoon bottle neck for one handed drinking/eating operation....

I had that last year (packaging has been updated) and I found it to be really good...perhaps the recipe has been tweaked? I know that ownership (and its place of brewing) has changed hands a few times in the last decade.

"Autocrat, LLC was established in 1895 under the name Brownell & Field Coffee Company, and began manufacturing coffee syrup in the 1930s.[4][5][6] In 1991, the firm acquired Eclipse, a coffee syrup manufacturer, after which it became the sole manufacturer of coffee syrup in the United States.[6][7] In January 2012, the firm partnered with RFI, LLC to expand coffee product offerings.[8] In April 2014, the company was acquired by James Finlay Limited, a British tea extract producer, and continued to operate under the Autocrat name.[9][5] In July 2015, the company's corporate name was changed to Finlay Extracts and Ingredients USA (Finlays).[5] Retail products remain marketed under the Autocrat brand name.[5]"

I had a friend working there when this all went down, and although this is a WIkipedia entry it is accurate. I believe they are still producing the Autocrat syrup in Lincoln, RI, but I wonder if they are still considered the state icon they once were?

I think these pairings of iconic brands are a good thing even if they are only meaningful for a particular region. It's pretty much free publicity for both brands and probably succeeds at least a little in attracting the "crossover" consumer.

I like their donuts...but apparently they no longer want to be recognized for their donuts, as they have dropped the "donuts' from their name.

Sorry Dunkin, your egg sandwiches are shit. Your bagels are from hell. You are Donuts to all of us in the Northeast. And you serviceable coffee doesn't belong in beer.
