I appreciate your evidence free opinion being given as some sort of corrective to my evidence free opinion. Solid internet discourse in action.

    It’s the same beer.

I am having a hard time reading your position in a way that isn't a strange double standard. In concept, Duvel Single is really no different than Duvel Green or Duvel Tripel Hop... and as a Citra dry-hopped, lower ABV, lacking secondary fermentation, lower carbonated beer - it actually resembles those two variant beers more than it does the regular Duvel. The lineage of Duvel Single is in those two other beers.

Duvel is a bottled beer. You won't get Duvel in a can or on a standard draft line. These variant beers are ways for Duvel Moortgat to get a Duvel-ish beer in those containers/systems.

Here's how Duvel Moortgat describes Duvel Single:
If you are dead set on drinking Duvel on a boat, you're either going to have bring a bottle or settle for one of the "failures."

I’m pretty sure he’s being facetious.

But he’s not really making an argument. He’s saying that he loves all these beers but consumers don’t like them because they’re too strongly branded with the word “Duvel” so therefore there being any Duvel beer at all that isn’t Duvel will be twisted to “prove” this theory.

It’s a dumb theory he’s deeply invested in and, without market analysis of some kind, probably unfalsifiable, so it’s not really worth arguing with him about (although I thoroughly encourage some good natured mockery).

(it’s dumb because there are other breweries that successfully brand a wide range of beers predominantly with a single name, so the premise would have to include something ultra specific about Duvel, at which point you’re immediately actually discussing something closer to the “real” reason these sub brands haven’t taken off, not to mention the preponderance of evidence that Belgian beers are simply not trendy right now combined with the proliferation of domestic skus and you have a smorgasbord of reasons that are infinitely more likely than this one, but it’s really really dumb because it wasn’t even his first point, which was that these beers weren’t memorable to the audience on this website despite he himself finding them memorable, again pointing immediately to the culprit being something other than his pet theory, but as I said, he’s moved the goalposts so much already you have to assume he has an infinite capacity to continue doing so if you’re committed to arguing with him about it).

    Im being facetious, mostly.
I am very familiar with the Duvel and know why variants this unique beer have been a market failure. And they are indeed market failures, by any measure.
Call it something other than a Duvel variant and they are all pretty good or mediocre. But put Duvel in the name and Moortgat is asking for comparison.

As far as being a failure or not, all of these beers have not managed to stay relevant.
None of them have any staying power, at all. Zero. A few accounts here and there is about all. I have the opportunity to visit tap rooms all over my region and Duvel variants are as rare as a hen's tooth. Regardless of a select few BA's love, these are not popular beers.

So, while I dont hate on Duvel variants, my comment that the variations are inferior and should likely not be labeled Duvel is relevant. Judging by their lack of success in the market I am not alone.

And I m definitely going to try this Duvel v 3.1 when I get a chance.
    Cheersd

Why would someone point out that they are offering an opinion to refute an opinion... of an opinion?

    Is this thing on?

I was not aware of this beers popularity and I stand corrected.
    Thank you.

On the internet? Don't know how you missed it.

Honest, I have and am a huge fan of Moortgat. They are something of a victim of their own legend.

    Cheers Zid.

I don't think we need to feel sorry for Moortgat, it seems like Duvel is everywhere. Including my refrigerator
I also see the Tripel Hop, and will very occasionally grab a 4 pack. But I drink far more of the regular flagship. And I have no problem drinking it in the wild. Just be careful with the opening/ pouring and make sure to bring glasses.
I will purchase this 6,66 four pack if I do come across it.

For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of the triple hopped and I keep both in the house.
I'm also very glad that in these times of AIPS and Hard Seltzers I can still find it in my local store.
I'm sure they don't keep it stocked just for me.
Looking forward to trying the 6.66 as opposed to the newest kettle sour at the local gastro pub.
    There, I said it!
