Whatever happened to that brewery that was supposed to be in the outlet mall in Eagan? Were they one of those 'spoke before it was reality" breweries that seem to put info out without actually having something tangible? I also recall there was supposed to be something in Faribault too. Always curious why there seem to be press releases from 'breweries' that are really the equivalent of vapor ware.
I haven't heard any updates on Cedar Grove in Eagan for a long time, but F-Town in Faribault seems to be making progress: http://www.southernminn.com/faribau...cle_2c5249aa-086a-598b-8207-de4911afaad8.html Long development times and plans falling apart are par for the course among entrepreneurial endeavors in all fields. I'm tracking approximately 50 taprooms and brewpubs in the Twin Cities area (including Cedar Grove and F-Town) that supposedly are in development, quite a few of which I would be surprised to see ever actually open. I suspect breweries-in-planning try to get the word out early to build up excitement among prospective customers, attract potential investors, build public pressure on local governments to modify any ordinances as necessary and approve their plans, and because everybody always tends to underestimate how long this sort of project takes. That said, I don't remember Cedar Grove being anything but low profile all along. I do love that Eagan location to serve Eagan, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Mendota Heights, and Bloomington. I hope Cedar Grove and/or another brewery in that area is still in the works.
I sent a couple of emails to the fellow (Ken Koch) behind the project, but have not heard back and don't expect to.
I think The Wicked Wort in Robbinsdale is the closest I've got for you. http://finance-commerce.com/2014/11/spec-taproom-planned-for-public-site-in-robbinsdale/. I also list Blue Wolf in Champlin, but that one has been quiet for at least as long as Cedar Grove in Eagan. There's Wayzata Brew Works in Wayzata, but last I heard that looked like it had fallen through. http://www.wayzata.com/2014/09/wayzata-brew-works-withdraws-micro.html. That area is another hole in the market that I would like to see filled, especially with Surly's Brooklyn Center location gone. Edit: Clarification: Surly's Brooklyn Center location continues to brew, but, by law, Surly can't have a public taproom at more than one location. That's one of the many unnecessary restrictions on brewery development and expansion that I'd love to see the state legislature address, although I don't know if Surly would revive the Brooklyn Center taproom even if it could.
