Here's the text + link: https://www.instagram.com/eaglerockbrew/p/C8VhSrnP6SD/ Well friends, the time has come for us to hang up our hats and say farewell. It feels strange to say these words after nearly 15 years of operations, but we know in our hearts it is time. … What an incredible privilege it has been, to be among the first few brewers of the Twenty-First century to plant seeds in Los Angeles soil! To cultivate those seeds and protect their growth. To watch that growth proliferate an entire county and to watch the fruits of that effort earn respect from around the world. … The community of good beer in LA has grown far beyond our humble, early goals. And just as beer itself is alive and continuously evolving, so too is Beer Culture. We are grateful to have contributed to that evolution, but we also recognize our role in it. We have given our all to this effort, and now we must step aside to make room for the next generation of brewers with new energy, new ideas, and new contributions. The future of beer is in their hands as much as it is in your hands, friends. We pass this torch so that you may keep that future shining bright! … Please join us for beers (and maybe some tears) as we bid a fond farewell to Eagle Rock Brewery during the remaining days of June. ###
They had some excellent beers early on, and such bold and beautiful labels. I liked the imperial IPAs and there was a great Old Ale among others. My least favorite of the bunch was called "Red Velvet." In my review I said "This is like some kind of large, untrained mutt. Your furniture is not safe. The sweet dope is ridiculous, the alcohol is to gasp for, and the bitter yet sweet intensity will clear your sinuses. I'm a big fan of Eagle Rock, and I can also say this is one of the strangest concoctions I've ever tasted." But always interesting and I'm sorry to see them go.
Interesting...used to semi frequent buy their beer when I lived in Pasadena. Moved down SD county in 2012 and I'm not sure I've ever seen any of their beers down here.
I think the last time I had one of their beers was 6 years ago. Outside of Stimulus, their coffee stout, nothing ever really grabbed my attention. I did enjoy everything I had from them, though. It was just a matter of being consistently fine with no stand-outs combined with not seeing them at my local shops lately. Sucks for a long time local brewer who made decent stuff shut down.
That's a bummer, I wonder what happened since it seemed like partnering with Party Beer Co. was done as a way to keep both breweries going. I wonder what this means for their offshoot bottle shop in Burbank. That opened fairly recently, too.
i just spent all night with Bennet and Dustin if The Landing Wednesday night . I consider them family and it hurts. That's 3 places i lose back to back. Sunset Beer ( where i met Bennet and 4 others so I'm close with to this day) , Mumford and now TheLanding. A storm is coming.
Hadn’t Eagle Rock opened - and subsequently closed - a larger space with a kitchen several years back too? I never went, can’t remember what it was called
I thought they opened that "high end" restaurant a while back. ERB Public House? Pre pandemic. I'm sure the pandemic didn't help them, but from what I remember it never really matched the aesthetic of the brewery. Like a take on higher end food, paired with all of their beers, but the people heading to the brewery on a local basis were just randoms from the neighborhood that never really made it over to the Public House. Their beer was always above average, but just seems like they never really took the next step to really get their beer out there. I know they were with Guardian for distro (and I think Mumford was too?). When I lived on the westside I never really saw their beer landing over there, even though the brewery was less than 10 miles away. A few shops had it, but local distro with a local brewery, you would expect them to be everywhere? I've heard through the rumor mill of a beer brand in and around LA that is currently looking to set up shop somewhere, and randomly heard they were looking at this place a month ago or so? Haven't heard anything else, but seems like there is already suiters for the building considering its almost turnkey.
I looked up Eagle Rock, forgetting about all this news, and found it was still active on BA. So I'll change the status, and to wish adios to an interesting brewery here's a photo I had of their Mosaic Canyon.
