Although technically a Russian Imperial Stout, I'm currently drinking a Samuel Smith Imperial Stout and it has enough similarity that it would be worth a try, too.

Some of their other stouts are just a touch on the thin side and they're not trendy, but I find almost all of their seasonals and many of their year-round beers to be very well done. They're just not the whiskey barrel or juice bombs that are getting all the hype these days.

Not to say that's why you personally don't like them, but they get overlooked a lot, I think, even though they make a lot of consistently high-quality beer and even have a couple really good IPAs these days.

I also used to live pretty close to St. Louis, so they were kinda my local brewery, and they have bottle dated for as long as I've been drinking, so it was pretty easy to know you were getting fresh sauce. That probably didn't hurt, but I love Schlafly at any rate.

My grandfather buys me one every year usually to be funny. Actually not a half bad beer.

I've had some very bad run ins with Schlafly beer that have largely turned me off. Not to say all their beer is bad, most of its solid, but I just personally don't care much for them due to being burned before.

Just some bad beers, or a human component? I'm not out to change your mind or anything, just curious which beers, if that were the case.

Bad beers. The worst beer I ever drank was a schlafly beer. and I've had several that just weren't every good.

Dunno how easy it is to get where your at but De Dolle has a good one IMO. I always thought the foriegn/export designation generally meant a beefed up stout. Not going off any style guide, just my experience drinking them. Higher abv, more robust flavors, less dry. De Dolle's might be a little different and I think its possible one could create a separate style for belgian stouts, but its labeled as an export.

By far the best I've ever had is Malpais Stout by La Cumbre, but that one is pretty limited and won't help you in Ohio. If you ever get to New Mexico or Colorado it is available year-round and I can't recommend it highly enough.

So I'd guess another vote for Fade to Black for wider availability. Also if Anchor ever makes Flying Cloud Stout again, search that one out.

This...yet again. it's in a 6 pack can format this time around for $11.99. Price might vary but 12 bucks is more than fair for such a great stout. Severely underrated

I second De Dolle's extra export stout. It was one of the first stouts I fell in love with. I'm not certain what their distribution net it but I have purchased it in every locale I have resided in (Minnesota, Atlanta, Connecticut, Iowa, and Oregon) so based upon that spread I'm assuming it has national distribution. It's not overly expensive either, anywhere from $3.50 to $6.00 per bottle when I have purchased

If you have access to Urban Chestnut, their Kinsale FES is very good.
