It appears ebay is not longer permitting the sale of beer of their site. As a beer consumer, I find this to be a huge mistake. Ebay is an easy way to attain rare beers (at an inflated price, I must admit). But now, there is little to no chance to even get to try some of these rare gems. I am just curious what the rest of the beer community thinks of this issue. Cheers.

It's illegal to ship beer without a license, has to be signed for by an adult over 21. What took them so long? But honestly I don't really care that much, America is about free enterprise, don't like the price don't buy.

I have noticed this as well, I haven't ever bought anything from people on ebay, but tend to look every once and a while in my boredom. The number of beers on there has dropped greatly and ones I see earlier in the night tend to be pulled by he end of the night.

It's okay with me I guess. I had bad luck trying to get King's Ale on 2 occasions. I'll miss trying to get the odd Royal Wedding/Celebration brew from the UK though.

I'm in favor of it. If it reduces the number of people buying rare beers just to flip them on eBay then I'm in favor of it.

I have made one beer purchase on eBay, 3 bottles of Pliny and 3 bottles of Blind Pig. These aren't terribly rare beers (or at least they weren't at the time), just ones that aren't available in my area so the markup was reasonable. I'll miss the opportunity to get something like that through eBay. But it's not big deal. Flipping rare beers and selling something more common is just different degrees of the same thing.

I hope no one who advocates eBay beer sales ever complains about missing out on a local release. The beer was taken out of a locals hands to get to yours. You certainly can't complain if you miss out because someone bought multiple bottles just to turn around and off them for profit.

The question that must be axed is: "Are rare beers really all that much better than easily obtained beers"?

How is this any different than trading?

I'm okay with eBay adopting this practice. It's illegal to sell liquor without a license.

But what about guys like me, who were really just interested in the bottle, not the contents?

I will not stand up for trading when it has the same negative consequences. I believe if you to trade a limited beer you should sacrifice your own allotment and trade from that. Too many people hide behind trading being advocacy. Advocacy is not taking beer out of someone's hand for your own benefit.

The seller can still sell the empty bottle on eBay. You're taken care of.

to be completely honest i'm not thrilled. while i've very seldom pursued it, i admit i liked having ebay as an option for obtaining a couple beers i might otherwise not have had access to.

No way this is the end of the matter. Beers will start popping up on other auction sites. If brewers really want to stop this, they had better realize that this is just the end of round 1.

That's great the Hill Farmstead/Russian River have gone this far to end ebay sales. That's really great of them.

Well I was talking about getting their allotment. I bought 5 bottles of Event Horizon and traded 4. Still within my allotment, but it seemed a bit unfair to others. I do know that everyone in the state got what they wanted. I would never get more than my allotment, and usually leave the last few on the shelf.
