So now that the market for reselling is drying up, those locally will have the chance to drink/trade these beers instead of having them poached off by profiteers.

    Oh, the horror.

What you're doing is responding with a level headed, honest and sincere response. Such things are frowned upon here on entitledadvocate.

Keep doing what you're doing how ever you see fit. It's your brewery and your beers speak from themselves (although I have never had them :slight_frown:). You're brewing a quality product and distributing it to the best of your ability and in the capacity in which you would like. Anyone who takes issue with that needs to check themselves.

If you've never had them, how can you say they speak for themselves? entitledadvocate ( as you call it ) ratings?

Nope, close friends of mine that have had it. Thanks for jumping to conclusions though.

You kind of did the same thing in your response. A guy you don't know and who you've never met - you instantly believed everything he said, did some leg humping, and praised beers you have never consumed. =)

I did leg humping? Ha ha ha, ok man, I guess. I took his post at face value and responded based on my feelings about the sense of entitlement I see on these boards frequently. I don't know why you've got an issue with that.

Shipping beer would subject the beer to temperatures the brewer did not intend the beer to ever be at. This is not allowed when it comes to HF.

Providence, RI is not that far from Vermont...you should come and visit! I hope you enjoy the beer when/if you decide to come out.

Simply put -- it's only because the supply is not keeping up with demand. It's flattery. Hill Farmstead is highly sought after. Everybody wants your beer! The brewery has 7 beers in the top 100 by BA's rankings (300,000 person fan club) then you brew a 160-bottle (1bbl) batch of Ann. It's going to be mass hysteria until there's more of it to go around. If you want to keep brewing at 15-bbl, that's fine, it's your right, it's your masterpiece. You'll just have to live with the constant high demand and crazy things people will do for your beer. I know Shaun is outraged by a $200 auction, but the same things are happening in the trading forums for Ann...

There's clearly a market for this and no convincing argument why that market should be marginalized, let alone illegal. It's perfectly rationale for eBay to ban the practice given existing laws, and I encourage brewers who don't want their beers auctioned to adopt practices that minimize this behavior, but rare beers are a commodity with great value. Denying this doesn't make it not so. Seems like a great opportunity for someone to step in and fill a clear need, and potentially lucrative one, at that.

Send out a case wrapped in some Burton Snowboard insulated gear and keep it cool with some Ben and Jerry's. It will be fine.

No doubt. It's been on my list of places to hit for a while. New born son has closed in on the free time as of lately, but my wife and I are thinking of heading up to Bridgewater Corners (a favorite spot of ours) in the fall. If we do, we'll be sure to hit you guys up.

You make some fair points however just because you can does not mean you should. I guess is all boils down to how you view your craft beer hobby and how it fits into the craft beer community. If you are out for yourself and as long as you benefit nothing else better than indeed your statements are something you will get behind. If you want to be a part of a community, support it and respect it I do not see how filling this need is inline with those beliefs. When it comes down to it we all have to decide what side we are on.

Could you elaborate why you guys are so openly opposed to people re-selling your beers for money, but apparently have no quarrel with people ransoming your beers off on the trading market? What's the difference between someone selling the beer on eBay for $200, or trading it on BeerAdvocate for $200 worth of beer? Either way, people are getting price-gouged on the grey market/aftermarket. I'd like some consistency in your stance.

Finally read through the entire thread...

My first impression is "wow - times have certainly changed!" Even two years ago this thread would have been 99% comprised of posts of people singing "ding dong the witch is dead!" Now it seems split 50/50 as to whether this was a good or a bad thing.

I, for one, am excited about this. I know trader hoarding has its own issues, but I've always genuinely believed that trading was still a small minority compared to Ebay sellers flocking to releases and chasing trucks.

To anyone who likes to attend limited releases, or lives in an area with good distro of limited releases, this has no negatives, unless you liked to sell on Ebay.

To anyone who doesn't attend limited releases, or lives in an area with bad distro - this is also good news! Now you can trade much more easily for things like CBS or King Henry. Sure it may be slightly more difficult than slapping down a credit card on Ebay, but you'll save a ton of money, and trading is a hell of a lot more fun.

Trading is actually more expensive than eBay in a lot of cases. I got asked for $180 worth of Beat B5 for a Rare which could be purchased on eBay for $150. CBS is also generally cheaper on eBay unless you have access to numerous rare releases.

Something more available - BCBS Bramble - $45 on eBay. Right now I have nothing that would trade for it aside from maybe $75 worth of locals.

am i the only one who noticed that shaun hill's original statement blasted both ebay and trade ransomers? i'm seriously wondering how much the message would have changed if people understood all of it.

trade forum is a big part of today's problem - let's not be shy about it.
