Surprised there isn't an Eccentric Day thread already. Was wondering specifically about Eccentric Day Ale. By reviews it seems like these beers aren't for most. I was wondering if any one can tell me which years are better. The General Store will be selling bottles of '99, '01, '02, '04, '06, '09, and '12. Also, do they really turn people away who aren't dressed "Eccentrically", the only thing "eccentric" I own is something I think I'd get arrested for wearing in public.

Yes. It doesn't have to be crazy or illegal. I went in 2007 and I saw them turn people away.

Yes they will turn you away. I haven't been able to go in about 3 or 4 years but 5 yrs ago I got turned away around 2pm for not being dressed eccentrically so I went home, found a couple of old halloween costumes & mashed them together. No need to match or look like something in particular.
Throughout the year I believe 2008 is the only Eccentric Ale the I really liked whereas the rest of the years that I have had (which isn't all of them) it has been meh

They have gotten a lot more lenient about what they let in the last two years. I was dressed ridiculously four years ago and got turned away for not being eccentric enough, but last year there were lots of people in lame, simple, whole Halloween costumes (hobo, cowboy, doctor, ninja, etc) in there.

EDIT: I have always wanted to drape myself in velvet for this, but I'm never sure if I'm going to go until the day of, so I've never put in the effort.

The guest brewer has been announced, Matt Brynildson of Firestone Walker, who went to college and worked in Kalamazoo before he went on to brewing fame.

Yes. Last year was Jamie Floyd of Ninkasi Brewing. I heard that guy give a talk, and he was one funny guy.

IIRC the 2002 Eccentric was very good, a lot of Old Ale qualities.

Eccentric Day is probably my favorite beer event of the year. Ill be there bright and early, Ill be the shiny one.

I'll be the band leader marching in at 9 AM looking for my band. Cracked a '99 recently and there was an overwhelming menthol flavor that was unpleasant. Within the past year have opened '93, '02, '03, '04. From what I recall, I enjoyed them best in about the same order.

I hear Jamie Floyd is back this year. Also Bill Morgan. Early in the day we are pretty lenient about dress and get stricter as the day goes on and we get more crowded. Try the finger limes- the caviar of the fruit world. Great with an IPA.

This might be a stupid question, but you don't have to be dressed eccentrically to get into the General Store today, do you? I have to work today but I'd be interested in picking up some bottles.

They were also great with X-slam and Toasted Espresso Third Coast Old Ale.
These tasty little things called finger limes were amazing.

How'd those beers taste? Was the Wild One insanely sour?

How is that sweet potato stout? My wife loves sweet potatoes and has wanted to try this for some time. Can't think of any breweries that bottle something like this off the top of my head.

The Wild One was a bit more tame than I expected. It was very good, not too different than the recent batches. The Cherry Stout was interesting. The nose really showed its age, was not incredibly impressive, but the taste was really enjoyable. Cherry Stout holds up remarkably well.

I like the Sweet Potato Stout. It is a nice well rounded beer, its not over done in any way. Mildly sweet and appropriately spiced.
