I've got a business trip to the suburb of Eden Prairie coming up. Have a free evening, but can't find much on the site about where to have some good beers on tap. Does anyone know of a place nearby this area where I should go? TIA

Yeah, that Old Chicago has had some decent stuff on tap. Haven't been there in awhile, but I wonder how often a place like that cleans their tap lines...?

Wait a second -- don't you work for J.J. Taylor? C'mon Papa Smurf, help a guy out!

The Golden Nugget is a good place especially if you want a burger. Order the onion rings. Wish they had more locals on-tap but you will find Surly. The local Old Chicago is supposedly the best one around but I have not been there in at least a year. There is also Panino Bros. which is not far from the center hub. Service is often terrible though. There was a thread about the Prairie Ale House but I do not think anyone posted since they reopened. I certainly have not been there in a long time.

The old Chicago is not great. Last time I was there they had Lagunitas as their local of the month. When I said something I was told that they just wanted to get it on tap so they stuck it there. Didn't explain why they didn't move one of the 5 local beers they had on tap there, or why they were false advertising Lagunitas as a local though. Not impressed.

Nope, I have nothing to do with J.J. Taylor. You must be thinking of someone else.

When are you going to be in town? I live in EP, so give me a shout if you want to meet up for a beer!

I live in EP and while it's a great place to live it's a beer wasteland for the most part. OC is probably your best bet but it's still not great.

It looks like the Prairie Ale House space is going to be opened as something different. See post below from MSP Mag last week. It's better than nothing!

    COMING SOON
The Prairie Ale House space in Eden Prairie will live once again! Scott Foster and his Nova Restaurant Group (which includes Hazellewood, Joey Nova’s Pizza, Pescara in Rochester, a little bit of Pier 500 in Hudson) is working on reviving the space with a fresh draught house feel, they are keeping the beer/tavern focus but softening it a bit and rounding it out to be a bit more family friendly (smart).

I think the family angle is smart. I hope they have more than twenty different macros on-tap (see Hopkins Tavern).

Prairie Ale House had a relatively decent tap selection and they had an imaginative menu too. Problem was it was all imagination and no execution. I hope it's better this time around.

I remember calling Berg and company at the old Water Tower brewpub. I really liked the brown porter it was a good one.

Gold Nugget is pretty good. They turn tap lines over pretty quick.

I agree. They had a good taplist when they first open but I understand it went downhill fast. Did not like the food at all, so bland. I assume it is closed again after reopening earlier in the summer. I only go down that way to grab lunch at the Mexican restraunt next door (pretty good despite calling themselves authentic and having something like chicken fajitas on the menu).
