Bought a single of this in the random single pile of beers at the Whole Foods. Wow...this beer was just great, a sweet malty brew with tons of flavor.

It seems anything with malt character is reduced to lower scores on the Beer Advocate Reviews section. The more hops and more alcohol seem to gain more favorable reviews.

Anything malty and easy to drink seems to score lower. That's a shame. I thought this beer was pretty outstanding, the yeast, the malt, the German character it was all there and maybe it scored low reviews because it was too perfect...I mean it was just so damn drinkable.

I really enjoy all of them; very solid beers all around.

    But how dank was it??????¿

I think the generally lower scores are less indicative of people disliking the beer but more so that they just like hoppy/boozy/currently trending styles more (which is not a bad thing in some ways). A well made Doppelbock, Eisbock, Weizenbock etc is really a thing of beauty and hard to beat. There is a refinement to the traditional German styles that has certain come from centuries of brewing experience.

That's the dreaded style bias right there...

Is this the Icelandic Doppelbock listed in the database here?

If not you might want to enter it.

Yeah same beer, I don't know how to enter beers, where is the link? I tried but can't seem to find a link.

I was surprised to see it at 82...I think it's at least an 88 or low 90's...It's a fantastic beer worth exploring for those who like Doppelbocks.

I love doppelbocks - I will look for it - thanks for bringing this up! As an odd side note, my spell checker wants to change doppelbock to backstopped, diplomatic or stippleback.

Well since this one is already in the database, no need to worry about it, but for future reference:

At the top of the page in the menu the word "Beers" is listed. Click on it and there is a submenu that replaces the one that's showing now.

The second item in the submenu is "Add Beer." Click on it and there are instructions.

Edit: BTW, if you haven't tried it yet, look for a bottle of the Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock.

I've only run across Einstök's toasted porter, and I enjoyed it. I've heard great things about their witbier, and it's been on my wants list for a while. You just added their doppelbock to that list.

It'd be nice if any shop around here actually imported them, but I apparently must just keep an eye out when traveling.

Total Wine in this area stocks the Einstok beers.

That makes sense - I ran across the porter during a brief jaunt to Manhattan. Memo to self: find excuse to hit up eastern Pennsylvania.

Actually you'll want a bigger area--Delaware and Jersey. No Total Wines in PA... :slight_frown:

Also, IIRC, the Doppelbock is a winter seasonal which may be out of stock by now.

A store where I shop in Fort Lee, NJ seems to move a lot of it, but that could just be their own customer base. I was just there a few days ago and saw a new stack of cases on the floor.
