I was just wondering if anyone else had used these in large quantities. I made the flying dog el dorado ipa with their kit (a kind gift). It is finally carbed up and ready to drink - and I am getting some nice tropical notes but a pretty massive licorice flavor. I was curious to know if anyone else had experienced this. Licorice isn't my favorite flavor but it makes for a very interesting dipa.

Probably not much help, but I used 4 oz of El Dorado in addition to 3 oz Glacier, 4 oz. of Amarillo and 4 o.z of Mosaic in a DIPA recently. I got an interesting combo of blueberry, fruity pebbles, some tropical fruit mango-like, and darker fig-like fruit flavors, but definitely no licorice, fortunately. Turned out to be a very unique, yet delicious beer.

Licorice, eh? Maybe they'd be good bittering a stout. Anybody tried that? Or would the tropical flavors make it funky?

I haven't tried them, BTW, so I don't know what flavors they put out. I'll have to try them.

FWIW I got no licorice when I used them for an IPA I brewed. I also didn't get watermelon which is what I read and why I bought them. They were ok. Not in a hurry to use them again. And given their fruityness, I wouldn't want them in a stout. Just my opinion though based on one time use.
