    Hey All,

I'll be in El Paso for a work trip this whole week. Any recommendations for breweries/beer bars/bottle shops in the El Paso area?

Hoppy Monk was a good beer bar last time I went.

I was going to link to some old threads about this.... but they were 5+ years old. How time flies.... I visit EP a time or two a year and stay on the west side, so there may be some other options on the other side of town.

I think Specs - Sunland Park is the best store for Texas availability in town. They had some stuff that really surprised me, when I was there over Christmas. I live in Houston, so most of what they had is readily available for me.

I always go to Side Door and Billy Crews. They are close by, but just over the New Mexico border. You can get LaCumbre and a few other New Mexico and Colorado beers that you can't get in Texas. I think both of them get weekly LaCumbre shipments and they had Project Dank, when I was there last.

Of the breweries I have checked out in El Paso (El Paso Brewing, Deadbeach and Ode), I probably enjoyed El Paso Brewing the most. Nothing special but I enjoyed the most from that trio.

Went to Hoppy Monk, Deadbeach, Blazing Tree, and Aurellia's. Hoppy Monk had a great beer selection and great food (especially for a vegetarian), and was my favorite spot on the trip. Deadbeach was solid. Nothing great but nothing terrible. Blazing Tree was in a weird location, the fruited milkshake ipa's we tried were overly syrupy, and prices were much higher than I'm used to. (I swear it was like $7 or $8 for a pint.) That and when the bartender came over to drop off our drink order (2 pints), she never returned with the change from the $20 bill my coworker gave her for the round (nor asked if we wanted change). Aurellia's was my least favorite. I wasn't a fan of any of the house beers, and the food was really disappointing. We ordered 4 appetizers and they came out at different times over a span of about 30 minutes.

Overall, had a great time and was pleasantly surprised with the beer and food in El Paso.
