Still quite a fridgeful of both BA Crude and Old Jetty to go while I left at 12:40 today.

It was on tap yesterday so it should be. It was really good. I'm not a big barleywine fan, but I enjoyed it.

I get all the excitement about BA crude and Old Jetty. I'm very happy to see BA crude finally bottled. I got my bottles yesterday. But I'm surprised there is no discussion about fresh 5lb Sledge Hammer. Its a pretty tasty DIPA.

Its hard to walk into ESBC and walk out without at least 1 bottle or growler of a fresh IPA.

Posted yesterday on their FB page:

We have a limited amount of our Small Batch Barrel Release beers left. Swing by the taproom soon before they are gone!

With a pic of Old Jetty and Standard Crude. I'm going to run by tomorrow and hopefully pick a bottle of each. I'll report back.

Enjoyed the hell out of Old Jetty when I visited last week and grabbed a couple bottles. Standard Crude didn't blow me away, certainly nothing wrong with it and it's a good value but Old Jetty was easily the better of the two in my book.

I didn't detect too much barrel character from BASC, but given the price, it was hard to be disappointed.

For those interested, They still had more then a case of Old Jetty and BA Standard Crude, in the fridge behind the bar, as of 15 minutes ago.

May even have more in the back.

Went for the Standard Crude, stayed for the Old Jetty. Excellent beer (Standard Crude was nice too, but Old Jetty was the feature by far).

    Ok, I'll weigh in here.

Old Jetty vs BASC, I agree Old Jetty is the better of the two.

With Old Jetty, I expected an American style barley wine ( hop forward ) , found an English style barley wine ( malt forward ), so I was surprised. Extra points for ESBC for stepping out of their comfort zone. But what really pulled me in was how well they pulled out the barrel flavors and balanced them with the base beer. IMO: this beer is a local hidden secret.

As for BASC, had 2016, 2015, 2014, and Bourbon and Bliss before that. Found all of them to be very good LA based BA Imperial stouts, but not competitive with the world class players, I can name a number of other California brewers who's BA Imperial Stouts that I prefer over BASC.

From I an LA perspective, I find BASC, competitive with Smog's and Beachwood's offerings.

But that largely misses the point. This is a $12 a bottle, very good, ;BA Imp Stout. At that price, given the quality of this beer, this is a great value.

We all know what we spend on the high end BA Imp Stouts.

I will be seeking out BASC for years to come.

I opened my first bottle of BA Crude. I hate to say anything negative about the beer but man, it is so different than years past. It's not the same beer at all. Very thin and very little barrel character. I'm not gonna get mad, but I wish I had tasted this years batch before blinding buying multiple bottles (my bad). I assumed it would be the same amazing beer of previous years. Those who have had it know how amazing it was.

Hope they fix the blend (or whatever - I'm no brewer) next year. Still love El Segundo. But feel like I bought 6 bottles of a standard non-imperial stout

I agree. I went there expecting to buy a case, tried the new batch and it was not as good as the 2014 I tried earlier that week. It wasn't really good at all.
Then I tried Old jetty and bought that instead. That is a damn fine barleywine.
