As someone who is 27 yo and recently got a better paying job my weekly drinking has gone from one night a week to 2/3 beers a night. I haven’t been to the doctor in years, maybe I should go. I’ve been more concerned with weight gain than anything.

I had mine elevated once and yes it motivated me to cut back a lot, to a moderate level and occasional 30 day abstinence. It's nice to reset things occasionally.

Normally the bias on this site is towards saying it's ok to be a heavy drinker (based on drink units, it ends up being in those ranges ). So I'd make sure you take all advice and go look into the medical side on your own.

This need not be a debate over various labels. Go look up the data. Once you go past moderate levels of drinking you're at varying degrees of risk for various health problems. Heavy drinking and beyond is something to take seriously.

Cheers and enjoy great beer in good health!

The elevated liver enzymes can be influenced by other factors than alcohol. My enzymes were elevated before I started drinking more often starting about 5 years ago. Cholesterol meds are a factor, as is resistance training- which I do often.

There are different "ranges" from various sources.

The Mayo Clinic has some good info. My numbers were actually within their range, but my internist thought they were high.

I also had a liver test done by my gastroenterologist and there were no signs of fatty liver. A gastroenterologist specializes also in liver functions and intestinal issues.

On my last visit my internist remarked not to worry about the slightly high numbers.

Was the milk thistle recommended by the doctor? Or are you supplementing without medical advice to help keep liver detoxified?

I had slightly elevated liver enzymes about three years ago. I suspect that it was due to my taking a methylated hormone bodybuilding supplement, and occasionally having a few on the weekends.

Definitely a bad combination. I cut out all alcohol for a about 6 weeks and took Milk Thistle, hi potency 200 MG caps of grape seed extract, and this Himalaya brand liver regeneration supplement, as well as doing a juice fast for a week and I was back up and running again with no ill effects.

Nowadays I will take the supplements the next day after having a few, and I will also drink fresh lemon juice as this cleanses the liver and helps it to regenerate, especially if you've had a rough/long night.
