Picked up two 4 packs of this the other day. Wtf happened to this beer? When I bought it last year in the 750ml offering it was amazing. Probably my favorite colorado dipa. The one I had last night had so much malt on it. I drain poured it. Last year's was so citrusy. I have 7 of these left. If anyone wants them I live in Frederick. No charge. Otherwise guess I will have some marinade..

    That sucks.

I haven't ever had a bottled version, but I have tried it on tap and found it to be delicious. Much more in line with what you experienced with last year's batch.

Hope they can fix this in the future because I would love to be able to buy 4 packs of this.

I've never been impressed by elevation, is there one that stands out above the rest?

Had it for the first time last night and was less than impressed. Did a side by side with Pliny and ZD, which I initially thought was why I didn't like it so much, and it was just meh. Didn't think it was drain pour worthy however.

Yes. 7437 WAS excellent! I haven't actually had anything else by them.

Bought many of the 750s and enjoyed them all. Disappointed hearing the 4pks aren't as good. Guess I'll spend my beer dollars elsewhere.

Never understood the hype behind 7437. Always thought it was a malt bomb.

    Hey Guys,

7437's recipe is the exact same as last year, and no changes where made. Curious that you all noticed such a flavor profile change, could you explain it a bit more for us?

We have noticed a slight decrease in flavor and bitterness which could simply be from a change in crop year of the hops, but not to the nature you have all described, and that difference in flavor and bitterness has been accounted for in future batches.

    Cheers.

For me this year's batch has a huge malt backbone to it. I'm not tasting any of the citrus I got a year ago. From last night's beer I also got no bitterness either. In all honesty it tasted like a malt bomb that you would get from an IPA that was 4 months old.

Just opened a 12oz after buying several 750's last year. While it is not quite a drain pour it lacks the juiciness, hoppiness, and deliciousness of last year's batch. Lack of citrus flavors confirmed. Last year I was actually wowed, this is pretty humdrum. Bummer.

I had the SAME exact reaction to this, no hops, complete malt bomb.

Did another blind side by side today. Everyone said the same thing, malt bomb.

If the recipe didn't change, the only thing I can think of is that the hops weren't refrigerated, harvested, or processed properly and the aging was accelerated causing loss in aroma and flavor (were the acid %'s lab tested? or just based on variety?)... I'd imagine the brewer would be able to identify at least the aroma loss on the spot before adding the hops to the beer, so I can't really think of anything else. If the recipe didn't change, did any equipment? If you changed any equipment with mashing and got a 20% increase in efficiency (like some brewery's have reported in upgrading) it could result in a malt bomb, but again that would be caught in the pre-boil O.G.... just hypothesizing.

New bottling line causing oxidation somehow during packaging?

Not sure what their new bottling line consists of, but those are typically pretty well engineered (I just don't know enough about commercial bottling process) - also I don't think it's an oxidation issue, it tastes fresh - just lack of hop flavor/aroma (the beer doesn't have any off-flavors, just tastes unbalanced.

Maybd exposure was more the term there.
That is more of a homebrew problem though, you're right.

Any way that stinks. I was looking forward to the new format.

Elevation Beer did post above that they noticed some issues with this year's hop crop.
