Here's what I'll say about Oil Man
It's a pretty good base stout, but I wouldn't say great. I find the barrel presence to be way too subtle for my tastes.
I had it multiple times its first year out and haven't purchased it since

$20 for 50 oz of 11% imperial stout? Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. If you're already wanting this beer, why not make it a magnum? I say go for it!

Are you sure it's a magnum and not a 750?

I think it's an excellent BA stout, although it doesn't age well. I usually sit on most big stouts for at least a few months. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of heat...but I'm also not a big fan of extended aging notes. Typically 6 months to a year is a sweet spot. With Oil Man, drink it ASAP. Not sure if it's "pre-aged" or it's just mellow from the start, but it's spot-on right away. After a year I think it really heads south quickly. On day 1 I think it's pretty great, though.

As a frequent visitor the fine land of Colorado, there are a lot better ways to spend $20. I was really looking forward to this one & wasn't a fan at all. I would spend your money elsewhere.

I really like Oil Man. Like @Domingo said it's excellent straight of the shelf. Where are you getting it that it's $20 though? I've always gotten it for $13-$15 for a 750ml in Denver.

Oil Man is for sure a 750ml as I bought one tonight. My mentality is.....if you are really curious about a beer and it isn't outrageously priced (Oil Man 750ml was $16 and I think that is a crazy cheap price for a BBA 11% Stout) just buy it once and find out. I'm hoping $16 wouldn't make anyone go broke.

Stopped at the brewery and had it a couple weeks ago, they said they changed it this year and added some flake outs in it to give it more body. In years past I always thought it was missing a little something, 2015 version is much much better aND difficult worth the price. Might want to shop around though cause 20 is pretty steep

I say go for it. I've had a couple from Elevation so far, and both have been nice.

    Cheers!

    Hi everyone,

Oil Man is packaged in 750ml bottles only, no magnums. At the tasting room, we charge $16 per bottle. We recommend drinking it sooner than later - we package when it tastes the best. Age it if you must, but it has already been aged for a desirable amount of time. Hope everyone enjoys!

    Cheers,
    Sarah
