Ellipsis is over a year old and I have enjoyed their beer every time I get a chance to go there. I think they are worthy of their own thread so I am starting one. Post all things Ellipsis here. I have no affiliation with the brewery other than being a fan of their beer.

Tomorrow is their first bottle release. Two barrel aged imperial stouts that I will definitely be there to get. I do have way too many beers so if it is permitted there I would be open to bringing a few to share since I now need room for the new Ellipsis stuff. Any other BA members going to the release?

I'll be at the Ellipsis beer release tomorrow. The only thing I'm concerned about is this being their first barrel aged beer release is the prices. What I mean by that is they made good IPAs, but their stouts are average to me. Just because they put them in a barrel doesn’t mean they are going to be good. They are charging Angry Chair and Cycle prices for an unknown beer. At $28 and $25 for their beers, that’s kind-of pricy not knowing what we are getting. I have no problem paying those prices for an AC or Cycle release, because they have a track record of making good barrel aged beers. Ellipsis probably isn’t at that level yet. That being said, I’ll probably get one of each to try. If they impress me I’ll get more the next bottle release they do. If they don’t impress me then I’ll just wait until they figure out how to make good barrel aged beers. I have no doubt in my mind they will get there if this release proves to not live up to the hype.

Also, I would do a bottle share, but I’m going to one later that night at a friend’s house. Maybe next time.

I get the feeling it will be 1pp for each one... So you might not have to worry about getting more even if you wanted to

That's true. Didn't realize they were doing so few bottles. Thought there would be more for some reason.

There are always bottle shares on release days and most Friday nights. Look for the all the fat guys at the table in the middle that will be us. Come join us pull up a chair and pop some bottles.

The guys that own Ellipsis are very much aware of the "never had a BA release" pitfall. They did select a group of regulars to do a tasting of the beers the Friday before Huna day. From what I understand both beers are very good and the BA Dino Chaps is outstanding. I have know these guys for a few years and when they were planning the brewery and now they are always open to criticism and really want peoples honest feedback.

If you have had any of the treated Porters and Stouts that Ellipsis has been doing since the beginning they you will most likely enjoy these beers.

The pricing of the beer is based on what it cost them to produce. Buy barrels, beer ingredients, buy bottles and a 4 bottle filler. They closed the brewery on Monday and all the employees spent the day bottling and waxing the beers. (the wax is all different colors and means nothing).
I can see not wanting to get Red Cypress-ed, thats what we call the first BA bottle release they had, Bombers were $25 and the beer was horrible. I think the pricing is fair for 25 oz bottles. AC charges $30 and $35 for their BA beers. They could charge $40 and people will still buy.

I’ll be there at some point Saturday. Excited to try the beer on tap, but probably not going to buy bottles because I already have so many BA stouts at home.

I’ve also known the guys at ellipsis for a while and they are beer snobs. They know what angry chair and tree house and other half and anyone else is doing and know how to measure their beers against the big guys. They would be embarrassed to put out something that isn’t at least passable. Excited to try the new BA beers on draft tomorrow.

PS: However they are waxing bottles is sad. It looks pathetic.

Yeah. But waxed well. Not waxed by what looks like a kindergarten art class.

Outside of poking fun at your seeming anger

Honestly why does it matter? Wax looks cool but really it's just in the way

Not angry. Just joking at how ugly the wax is. But along those lines, if you’re gonna make it harder for me to get into the beer at least make it pretty.

    I asked you.

So why does the wax job matter?

    Haha.

It doesn’t matter, just like everything else. It’s just bad wax job that doesn’t matter.
