Ellison has released details from their upcoming release at the East Lansing Location. The only link I could find was from Facebook so I am pasting the text:

Public release starts at 3 pm this Saturday with numbered wrist bands to hold line placement available at noon. Release will start with wrist band #1 and go up from there as we call everyone up.

Two Releases happen simultaneously in the same line, Double Barrel Gravity (4 Variants) and 4 Horsemen Collaboration. 2 x 22 oz. bottle limit per person per variant. A FULL allocation will be 10 total bottles, 8 bottles of Double Barrel Gravity and 2 bottles of 4 Horsemen.

    Double Barrel Bottles are $35
    1) BA Gravity finished in French Calvados Apple Brandy Barrels
    2) BA Gravity finished in Barbados Rum Barrels
    3) BA Gravity finished in Weller Bourbon Maple Syrup Barrels
    4) BA Gravity blended with BA Dissenting Opinions Barleywine

    4 Horsemen Bottles are $40

Full Allocation Price would be $360 with tax included in that pricing.

    See everyone Saturday!

I've had some of their Gravity variants in the past and they were quite good, but this price point just seems ridiculous to me. Previous releases were $10 per 16 oz. can.

There should also be some Barclay Brewing member beers on tap Saturday.

The price is beyond ridiculous. It's obnoxious. The Gravity variants are exceptional beers but it's still difficult to pay $10 per 16 ounce can.

Now I have to pay $35 for a 22 ounce bottle? Get bent.

    Barclay can get bent too.

Jeebus that is quite the jump; that is a 250% increase on the per ounce price ($0.63 to $1.59).

I've enjoyed the couple I've been fortunate to have but not sure I can justify throwing down for the new price structure.

I haven't been able to try any BA Ellison beers in the past though I have heard that they are excellent. The only thing that I will add is that all of these beers are double barreled so that means 2 barrels needed per bottle which, to me, justifies a increase. How much of a price jump is too much can only be answered by each person's wallet

Lol go fuck yourself. Barclay is a professional and his stouts are far better than almost anything on the market.

If Ellison had put the regular gravity series in bottles, I think people would have paid $20 bottle (for variants at least). We are paying that for 2019 Transient beers, which I believe are close to the same size (16.9oz). We are also paying $15 for Palatable which is only 12oz. Toss in BCBS variants and people are happy to pay $24-26 for ~17oz.

But they didn't, and now people know the regular gravity series is worth $10/can.

So, $35 and $40? Its a money grab and it clearly shows. Double barrel + wax + perceived rarity = $$$$$$

Overall, I'm quite disappointed in the price point. However, I don't fault them or blame them considering the current market in MI.

When I saw that these were being sold in 22 oz. format, I thought lookout, these will be expensive. I get that this stuff spent a lot if time in barrels, but, $35 and $40 went well above what I was expecting. I'm sure people will be lined up to buy full allotments. Not me. I'm planning to head over to try one or two on draft (thus putting an end to my Dry January, hey I had a good run) but will not be purchasing anything to go. I've never had anything from Drafting Table, but the Transient stouts are way over priced in my opinion.

Lol, I can't stop laughing. What can I say, I was on a roll. It's been a while since someone told me to go fuck myself.

Barclay may very well make good stouts. And if they can get those kind of prices for their beers, more power to them. It just won't be me.

I believe Ellison set the prices on the Horseman bottles not Barclay. Don’t believe he had a say in it.

Correct, Barclay had no say in the pricing for 4 Horsemen nor any of the Ellison bottles

Barclay's stuff is all membership only and prepaid, so he already made his money.

And to follow with these two points, I haven't found many people that will pass on a $55 17 oz bottle of DB BCBS. I didn't, and it was probably my favorite beer for 2019. Blows regular out of the park side-by-side IMO.

I won't defend the Ellison price point, but it made me think a bit and not go all in. I figure the maple will be good, and I'll take a gamble on the apple brandy. Check-ins for the 4 Horseman have been stellar so that's a go. But I haven't been pleased with any rum ba beers lately, so I want to taste before I buy. And If I understand the 4th is a blend and not a DB. I'll of course have it on tap, but figure I can make that one myself from cans if I really wanted to. That one should be priced lower.

I thougt the release went fairly well. Hard for me to judge, it’s the only one I’ve ever been to. I got there around 2 and was #66. Tried both the Four Horsemen and the Double Barrel Maple on tap. Both were great. The FH was the better of the two, IMO.

The public release started about 20 minutes late. Full bottle allotments were still available for everyone with a bracelet. The only cans left for me were Gravity and Dissenting Opinions. They started with 5 can options, with a limit of 2 each. I purchased 2 Gravity for $20 total (no bottles) and was done at about 4. They called up group 81-90 a few minutes later. There couldn’t have been more than a group or two left.

I must have gotten there just after you. I was 68.

They were all good beers. Can’t say good enough to make me drop that kind of cash on a full allotment. The Horseman was OK on tap but out of the bottle was excellent.

The Apple Brandy was my favorite of the bunch. Rum was surprisingly good.

I didn’t try those two. The Gravity/Dissenting Opinions Blend was not good though.
