I have always been skeptical of pumpkin beers, tried many of them and have yet to be impressed by the style... then I had The Great Pumpkin and HOLY SHIAT. This stuff is fantastic!!! Can't wait to their many other pumpkin beers. They seem to be pumping out a lot of them.

    Any others worthy of trying?

Pumking and the Midnight Sun Pumpkin Porters are pretty good, but you are right, The Great Pumpkin fantastic. I have a bottle coming Monday.

Their pumpkin collaboration with Stone wasn't particularly impressive... Nothing compares to Pumpking or Punkin imo, but I haven't had The Great Pumpkin yet.

Horseheads Pumpkin beer is one of the best I've ever had. And I've tried a lot of 'em. I've yet to try Elysian, but I've heard great things.

I like it but it's a little boozy. It's not really much a pumpkin ale for spice, so what you're basically getting is a Pumpkin Ale on steroids with it's 9% and even a good pumpkin flavor (like it has) can't hide all that ABV.

Elysian has some serious pumpkin beers this year (and every year). I think my favorite of the lineup is the Blight (September's Beer of the Apocalypse). I've yet to see or try Hansel and Gretel.

Personally, I thought the Blight from Elysian was a grossly over-cinnamoned mess; I tried it on tap at their SoDo brewpub. I don't know if it is somehow tamer via bottle, but I suppose I'll give it a shot. The other pumpkins I've tried from them (Night Owl and Dark of the Moon) are both great, but The Great Pumpkin is definitely the strongest entry.

I'd also like to give another vote to Punkin and Pumking!

Great Pumpkin is good (this coming from a guy who can't stand most of the "spice cabinet" pumpkin abominations that come out this time of year), but Elysian's Dark of the Moon destroys pretty much every other pumpkin beer on the planet, with the possible exception of Midnight Sun Treat.

I've got my first Great Pumpkin at home waiting until the appropriate fall evening... Up until this present though nothing has come close to touching Williamsburg Alewerks Pumpkin... And I consider myself a Pumpkin Ale junkie... There's lots of good stuff, but that's the best I've had to date...

Elysian is coming to the bar I work at to host a pumpkin fest and we have a 200 hundred pound pumpkin full of Dark of the Moon! Cannot wait, because I love that beer out of the bottle. They are also bringing 7 other pumpkin beers, so it should be a good time.

I still like darrk of the moon over the rest. Pumpkin stout FTW.

I think the thing I like the best about The Great Pumpkin is the addition of the roasted pumpkin seeds. Can't think of another pumpkin beer using the seeds!

Cigar City Good Gourd, Schlafly Pumpkin, Southern Tier Pumking, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin top my list of great pumpkin ales. Still got a few more to try though...

What's the flavor profile like? As opposed to, say, Pliny the Elder?

I assume that your question is specific to Elysian pumpkin beers. I think all of their pumpkin beers are worthy of trying. If you get it down your way, you should try the 4-pack of bombers aka Pumpkin Patch they recently released: The Great Pumpkin, Dark O' The Moon, Night Owl, and Hansel and Gretel. (I listed them in the order that I prefer them.)

'THE' Great Pumpkin is the best pumpkin beer ever! Since moving East I have tried 15-20 pumpkin beers that leave we realizing I made a HUGE mistake leaving Seattle!

we just tapped 36 pumpkin beers from around the country at the bar i work at, and this is definitely up there on my list. dark o' the moon is really good too if you can get your hands on it, or better yet, use it in a pumpkin black and tan.

Second this. The Elysian brews are all decent, but they don't touch Williamsburg. I'm up to 30+ different pumpkin beers this year, and Williamsburg is still the best of the lot.

I enjoy Great Pumpkin, but as others have said, it's a bit too boozy up front. And at more than twice the price per oz of Williamsburg, it's hard to justify.
