Does anyone collect empty bottles? I've started keeping a few and I would love to get my hands on empties of some of the more notable beers from the past 7 years or so, especially the "first years"(Vertical Epic 02.02.02, Dark Lord 2004, Darkness 2007, etc.).

What do you all do with the empties of, say, your "whales"?

    Thanks

You could look for them on eBay.

I have kept very few. Usually they go to recycling.

I have looked, but there's very rarely empties listed.

It was sort of a "tongue in cheek" response to the whole "eBay is the devil" thread.

Although, this is probably the best place to be looking for those bottles. But if someone has kept the bottles that long they may have some attachment to them.

But good luck in your search!!

I suspected it was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but either way it was certainly a valid one.
I can definitely understand that there would be some attachment to certain ones, especially considering that they can quickly take up a lot of space.

I think I would be willing to trade an "unopened collectible container" or two for a walempty.
That includes, too, old growlers of the more renowned breweries. I was able to get a hold of an old Surly growler, it's pretty sweet!

    Thanks Jose!

I only save/collect empty Dark Lord Bottles(one of each type). I currently have all 10 of the empty base Dark Lord bottles(Yes 10! there were two 2005 versions) and I'm only missing the 2006 Oak Aged Swing Top bottle for the Barrel Aged set.

Man, could you imagine if those were all still full? You could probably trade them all for an Ann!

Watch yourself. I tried to do the same thing but Pliny 500ml bottles have a slightly different crown size so it didn't work for me. I have heard that it can work but I am not sure what you need to do different (different crowns? upright capper?)

i'm a label saver...bottles gets out of hand quick. every now and then you come across cool bottles that don't have labels so i've been saving some of the cooler ones, but at this point, even the bottles i save are starting to get to be too much. i really need to figure out what to do with cans.

I collect empty bottles for brewing! I also peel certain labels off and the wife makes them into magnets.

I peel off neat labels if they remove easily... I do save some bottles, both for historical interest and for an eventual over-bar display -- currently I have interesting De Dolle bottles, old Courage/Barclay-Perkins RIS bottles, and a complete Deschutes Reserve series (well, not currently complete... need to track down the last couple releases. Been harder to get my hands on them since I moved to the east coast :stuck_out_tongue:).
