In my opinion, not quite as good as DR11 was, but still the freshest DIPA in town. I'll definitely be getting more. Did anyone else notice that it has a bottling date marked on the glass? Should keep us from getting old bottles, which are sure to be for sale after awhile.

What about Rodeo Clown? Two very fresh DIPA's in town now :sunglasses: and I am not even a hop head :grinning:

Agreed. I prefer Rodeo Clown, but I'm still happy that St Arnold's is finally putting out something year round that's worth a damn.

Yeah, but I can't get Rodeo Clown in a bottle at a nearby gas station! (Sunrise Mini-mart) At least not yet.

What molecular theory do you have to support the fact that beer stored too cold (I'm assuming we're talking about 32*F or greater here, not freezing the beer) will cause bad chemistry to occur?

There's probably no way for me to not sound snarky in this reply, but I'm actually curious as I've never heard this before. It does remind me of the old theory of "once a beer is cold, you can't let it warm up again or it's never going to be good" which is absolutely not true.

I am sure y'all have internet(since you are here). Do some research yourself, as I really could go on and on for hours about how beer works. It is all about what ingredients are in the beer, how the fermenting works(top fermentation vs bottom fermentation for example-requires different temps.), the proteins in the beer and so on. Beers also differ greatly depending on if they are live or thoroughly filtered. I am sorry, but I just don't feel like getting into the debate with the typical beer know-it-alls. I can't say I got this from one source, it is just stuff picked up along the way. I don't think it is rocket science to say beer tastes completely different at different temperatures. That difference in flavor is a chemical reaction due to temperature change. How we like our beer is nothing more than personal taste. If mainstream society said an IPA was no good until the hops fell off, so many people would follow and never know how to properly enjoy an IPA fresh. However, if you are chilling a bud light, I suggest getting it as cold as possible, period.

Nope. I'm 30. I should be going down that road soon.

I'm 26 and I've been on that road for about five years now. That should make John feel better about himself.

Yes, drinking beer too cold suppresses flavor. That's why I let my beer sit on the counter for 15-30 minutes (depending on style) before popping it open. Storing it cold does no damage, however. It may cause proteins to coagulate in unfiltered beer (the source of chill haze), but this has no effect on the flavor. Temperature may also effect how a beer ages, but this is a moot point in the case of DIPAs.

Yes, you read that right. I don't claim to know it all.... by far. I get tired of being called out every time I say something. Why does everyone always ask me to tell them where I heard something every time I may say something they never heard before. I think this was the SECOND time in this thread that someone asked me specifically where I got my information, like I am an idiot. It is the boobs that follow me around? Forgive me for being snippy, but it does get old. I know there are plenty of other people around here that know you CAN store beer too cold.

I can agree that with IPAs it is best STORED cold, but not ice cold. I think I missed my point on the storage with the molecular thing. I was referring to serving it too cold to where the flavor doesn't even get to open up before it is drank down. I didn't mean it ruins the beer, it can ruin flavors drinking too cold though. While we don't want our hoppy beers served at room temp, serving or drinking too cold will knock off the hop profile too, then somehow I got into thinking about storing other types of beer. It was a long weekend, I should have just left it alone. I am really peeved by the "where did you hear that" line though...still.

I wouldn't take personal offense or think it's a gender thing. You've barely been on BA for a year (welcome BTW) but if you had been around longer you would see that ALL of us have been "called out" for statements and/or opinions. Some more than others ( a few unnamed people come to mind) but rarely is anyone trying to make it personal. Not to mention, I don't think anyone was calling you out (chad specifically said he wasn't trying to be snarky) they were just asking for your source of information which is completely reasonable.

Yeah, it took me years to get onto BA. I have been into beer for as long as I can remember, grew up with a dad who homebrewed as well. I didn't join until I really wanted to trade for something I couldn't already get. I am just more snippy than usual tonight, maybe even this weekend. I usually keep distant enough from the forums. Somehow got into a few threads this past week. I appreciate the heads up. I do get a lot of grief as a chick, especially in beer aisles, where beer geek men always want to suggest fruit beers and lambics....as if I even asked for help. LOL

    Cheers!

Huh...where did you hear that? J/K. Put 'em in their place, I think it's hysterical when my wife runs circles around some of these morons that do the same thing to her.
