I have had this beer on draft and I enjoyed drinking that beer. I will 'second' this suggestion.

    Cheers!

Deuchars is not the beer it was and is a bit crap in bottles and cans. The draught at 3.8% is still superior (when well kept) to the bottled/canned pasteurised 4,4% (?) one. It's a shame because it is probably still easily the most available cask ale in scotland and now I can't bare to order it knowing how good a pint it used to be

As a subsidiary of Heineken, Caledonian Brewing is effectively run by accountants and marketing departments. They ditched using Golden Promise on the basis of availability - they could easily have contract grown it. And they ditched their original hop bill on the grounds of consistency, and to be fair to them it's been consistently underhopped since they did that.

For bottled traditional beers some supermarkets still offer a decent selection, so they shouldn't be too hard to get. Waitrose offers all of the standard Fullers range so you could get 1845, Golden Pride and Bengal Lancer from there. Other stronger bottled beers from other trad breweries might be your best bet - Holts Sixex, Batemans Victory, Robinsons Old Tom (possibly the only decent regular beer they make) etc

For more modern breweries with consistently good beers - Buxton, Tempest, some Thornbridge, Fyne, Kernel, Beavertown . Might need to go to a decent independent offy though to get their better ones. There's lots of good modern beers kicking about at the moment tbf

As for cider, if you like "sour" beers then you would like scrumpy. It can cover the full range of farmyard aromas and flavours

Marks & Spencer offers some nice beers brewed with British hops, such as Suffolk Bitter (5.2%), brewed by Adnams, and Styrian Goldings Amber Ale (5.2%) brewed by Oakham.

Avoid ciders like Strongbow and Magner's , made from imported apple pulp, sugared and fermented.Look for it either on handpump or a gravity dispense.
Don't waste your time with bottles/cans if you can get to the pub.Make sure the pub serves cask. Ask for a taster before buying.

I use to drink Cidre Breton at the French House in London (a favourite "pub" of mine when in the city centre) but never had any English one, so out of curiousity i bought today a Westons Oak Aged here in Spain. Is it any good?

Sadly i can´t get to the pub now, but the pint of Young´s Bitter from the bottle is not feeling bad at all.

If he can find it in England the Highland Brewery up in the Orkneys makes some killer beers. Not THE Orkney brewery that makes Skullsplitter etc this is different....

We can get Courage once a year in a small allocation in Texas. It's worth seeking out in the UK, if you could get more.

Highland Brewing Co. is now called Swannay Brewery

They rebranded last year as I assume because there was a US Highland brewery and they may want to export to the US and it could cause some problems.

Still a great brewery, the guy who owns it was head brewer at Orkney and came up with a bunch of their beers ( like Dark Island) before starting his own. He also used to brew at Moorhouse. Rob Hill is one of the UKs best brewers I think

edit - here's a short blog on their rebrand
    http://thebeercast.com/2015/10/swannay-brewery-launch.html

still think they want to export

I can only imagine what definitions you are coming up with here. I would suggest it would be best to not post them here.

I wish they would export-I told them that 5 years ago when I was there. Fantastic stuff and simply blew Orkney's beers away for my money. Scapa Special was smoother than a wee baby's bum.....
