I added a review today of an English Dark Mild and did some stat research:

Only 238 different Dark Milds reviewed on BA, I've reviewed 27 (11%).

The Top Dark Mild list is only 38 long, a beer only needs 10 reviews to be considered for the Top List and very few are actually English: http://beeradvocate.com/lists/style/75

I'll revisit the stats just before the CAMRA 'Mild in May' promotion and see if us Brits can change the Top List a bit; in favour of British Dark Milds instead of the heavy US bias currently showing.

I wish Adnams would distribute theirs more, it's wonderful.

Well I am a big fan of dark mild so will do all I can

I drink it first whenever I see it and funnily there used to be a lot of good big brand dark milds like Wilson's and Chester's (When the landlord drank it and didn't use the fact it was a dark beer on cask to pour all and sundry dregs back into the barrell)

Love it! Fortunately we have a few pubs which always serve one and a few others who often offer one.I've reviewed one or two but perhaps I've been a bit lazy in this respect.Belvoir Brewery's Dark Horse is superb and it's readily available too , it's really a clone of the old Shipstone's Mild but generally better kept these days!

There are some truely great dark milds out there but so many people (mostly youngsters) just don't want to know about them: still has a flat cap, old man with pipe and whippet image I'm afraid.

Are any of these beers that you all have mentioned bottled and available in the US? I'm really starting and trying to get more into english style session beers, but don't know much outside of the few American craft milds available in my area (which isn't many)...

Just had a look at the English Pale Mild Ale listings: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/76

Only 88 different ones reviewed (only 8 my me) and the linked list is only 11 long, meaning only 11 of this style have had more than 9 reviews.

Even more depressing than the Dark Mild.

I doubt it: Milds are usually the cheapest (and weakest) beer a brewery produces and bottling costs push up the price too much for the most to bother even considering bottling them. Those that do are looking at a small specialist market and exporting to the US isn't really an option.

These are my views though and I'm not in the trade, so i could be completely off track, but I don't think so.

You'll have to come over in May and follow all the Mild Ale Trails local CAMRA branches are organising.

which is a shame because have found a pub not too far out from me that sells Tim Taylor's Golden Best on Cask

Actually whilst we are talking mild, I thought the charge of the 2.8% brigade would have brought along some mild options but hasn't so far
shame because a nice dark mild low in alcohol can be just right to wash down a good lunch.

God I wish Milds would catch on in the U.S. Especially on cask. Some of the most flavorful beers without all the alcohol. Brains, Adnams Southwold, Ram Tam, Bateman's and Sarah Hughes well tended would be most welcomed!

Mild can be a bit of a underground hit with the youngsters more interested in obscure alternative.

Shame the tax breaks weren't set a little bit higher say about 3.2% then Milds could had a resurgence through lower prices.

I don't mind a pint of mild now and then, though they can seem a bit dull (full disclosure - the most flavoursome one that comes to mind is Brewdog's Edge. Although perhaps the hop content disqualifies it?).

BTW, is there really such a thing as an English pale mild? When I noticed this category on BA recently I assumed it was some bullshit way of categorising what would otherwise be called pale ale. I though traditional milds were generally dark?

The problem isn't a US bias, but a lack of both milds and UK reviewers. A couple people in this thread have already mentioned the superb Adnam's Southwold Mild, and yet it has only 2 reviews - and one of them is mine, from when I added it last year after finding it in a random pub in London (the Apollo in Marylebone, if anyone's interested). The best Dark Mild I've ever had was the Kernel/Redemption Number One, and I'm still the only review of that beer.

British BAs, step up your reviewing game!

And the other Adnams Southwold Mild reviewer is yours truly  I just loved it so much I had 2 pints in about 20 minutes when waiting for the bus out of Southwold. To me it seems a bit like Hops Kill? by Brewdog, in that it's my favourite beer from the brewery yet I never seem to hear much about it from anyone, including the brewrs themselves!
