He either works for or is really good friends with the Rip Current folks (or both I suppose). Hence the sticking up for small breweries and all that. Amusingly, he makes me want to buy their beer a lot less than I'd otherwise be inclined to, so he's not succeeding in his mission.

Ha, I'm not Paul. He's way too nice. I also do not work for any brewery and I promote them all. Societe and Alpine are much closer to me.

I'm also not a troll account, I've sent out open invites to sit down for a beer at local tasting rooms.

Can we have an open forum at CostCo?

I know that; was just teasing. Also, a quick perusal of your posting history hardly indicates you are argumentative that often, much less a troll. Everybody has their hobby horse.

I actually got your point, sort of. Still, it was so much fun to go into Alesmith and tease the tasting room gang about getting Speedway for under 6 bucks last week.

I sort of get it too but Stone is probably the wrong brewery to make the stand with. They're doing just fine and are not a struggling local little guy. It's actually probably in Stone's (and other "big" craft brewers) best interest to see their product move at retail stores so those retail stores will have more confidence and continue to get their beer out there.

Ultimately at a personal level it's not a charity, so personal interests are best served by finding the best price for me.

Putting an "and" between Whole Foods and the hell that is Beverages 4 Less does an incredible disrespect to Whole Foods. The two should never be in the same sentence.

I want to extend this argument. Let's say I see bottles of Rip Current at the Whole Foods I shop at 2-3 times a week. Is it better for Rip Current if I buy those bottles, or should I just leave them in the fridge and only drink Rip Current when I see it on tap at O'Brien's or Toronado?

Not at the Lodi CA store. Shocked me, they've had among the best beer selections amongst Costcos. Wasted trip. Got 6 at BevMo for 6.99 instead.

Er, this might seem like a thread jack but I'm actually responding to the original post. I keep opening this thread hoping to read about NorCal Costco getting Enjoy By. So: any sightings in the city by the bay?

One Costco in SD sells Speedway for 5.69 per bottle

Probably the former but if I was a brewer I'd be happy with you drinking my beers wherever you can

Beats me. A brewery has already made them buck selling into distribution. The faster it moves probably means they'd buy more. A brewery still makes more if sold in house.

Nobody is arguing against the idea that a brewery makes more if sold in house. Everybody just thinks you're a tool because you think that you're a "better" BA because you buy at the brewery instead of somewhere else. Are you supporting the brewery if you buy in house? Sure. Are you any less of a BA if you buy at Costco? No.

To sum up, you shouldn't be down playing one's support of brewery just because they choose to buy at another store rather than direct from the brewery. Everybody has their own reasons as to why they shop here or there. It doesn't deem them any worse or better than you.

IMHO, DtvBvr would have been much better served sticking to the "it wasn't refrigerated" argument.

Wifey picked up several bottles tonight at Carlsbad; there was about 10-12 cases left at about 6pm.

No, your argument is honestly just not that strong. No one is disputing that a brewery maximizes their profit on any given bottle by selling it directly at the brewery, but extending that to the idea that BAs should always purchase directly from the brewery ignores a lot of other factors like impulse purchases, strengthening a brewery's representation at retail via good turnover for the retailer, the cash flow benefits of off-loading a pallet to a distributor vs. selling it slowly in-house, etc.

Your intent to support breweries is spot on, but you're incessantly making a single point while ignoring any counter-argument, no matter how valid it may be.

DtrBvr has a problem with CostBlow, and he's doing an awful lot of backtracking to get out of admitting that. The thing about Costco is that you'll rarely see any small brewery's product there. Mission, Ballast Point, Stone, Alesmith - all I've seen there, and none of them are hurting. Maybe Green Flash once, though I don't think so. It's like I said - if you want to go after them for not having the Enjoy By refrigerated, that is a specific argument. This financial argument - heh, heh, heh...

If you go back to the post about the tight parking at the Mission Valley store, I think you'll get at the core reason.
