No ones doing it...well except the biggest brewery in Boston. That being said, if its cheaper than $25 and actually good it might find a niche.

I was lucky enough to get a sample bottle of Enlightenment a few months ago from Ben's homebrew operation. The bottom line is that this is just a fantastic beer --- well balanced, flavorful, exceedingly drinkable. If you'd asked me before I sampled it, I would've told you that I'm not a big fan of the biere de champagne style. That's changed now. I'll be lining up to get a sample when it starts selling at Atwood's.

I've only had one, and of course that was Infinium. Can't wait to try it!

Just what the Boston/MA beer market needs...

it seems to be a stretch to call that a legit BdC. i'm excited about this, and hope it will eventually be in retail stores as well.

Well that's how it is categorized on BA at least. And as I said in my original reply, I think Enlightenment could definitely find a niche if it hits a good price point.

Interesting first choice. Cost will obviously be a huge factor here - most BdC's are way up in that $25-$30 range. Of course there aren't many out there, and most are imports... so if he can hit the $10-$12 range it could really take off.

That said, I've always treated BdC's as more of an occasional/festive style - I think I've popped one on New Year's Eve for the last few years and that's about it. I suppose it could take off if the price is right and the beer is fantastic, but otherwise I don't think I'd see myself regularly drinking the style.

Nice label. Good luck to him.

With all these new big bottle format local breweries, if someone were actually capitalized enough to put out six packs, it would really stand out in the crowd.

Come early June, keep an eye on the menus at Deep Ellum, Eastern Standard, L’Espalier, Atwoods, and Russell House Tavern. If you miss the first run, though, Howe will also be at this year’s
    American Craft Beer Festival
    on June 1 and 2.

Ah yes, I'll just "keep an eye" on the L'Espalier menu and run down there for a $300 meal to try a new beer...

Haha, what L'Espalier isn't listed as having a great beer menu? I can't seem to find what they have on tap on their website.

It's less that than the concept of going to a place as incredibly expensive as L'Espalier to try a new local beer. ($100/person, before any alcohol, tax, tips, add-ons, etc)

I'm not actually sure what L'Espalier has on their beer menu these days, but I'd be surprised if they actually had drafts. Definitely a place where the vast majority of people there are drinking wine.

I know, just bustin' your chops. I should call and ask what they have on draft, haha.

Talk about an awkward place to showcase your first run of beers...

From those I've had on his list, I agree. But I also love seeing a new brewer, whom I also recognize as a bartender/server at my local brewpub (CBC) sitting with the "Enlightment team" at my hometown brewpub (Milly's in Manchester) in this photo on the "Who We Are" page: http://enlightenmentales.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/teamenlightenment.jpg

Well, since he is making biere de champagne I guess it makes sense.
