Does anyone else feel like these type of threads are getting old? I am tired of seeing threads in which the OP has no indication of what they are looking for and come straight out to say they will take the "best offer." When did trading become a bid war? Sorry for the rant; I just had to get this off my chest.

It's especially frustrating since they won't post a link to their wants.

It's the worst part of their essentially being two separate BA sites right now. ISOs are blind shots in the dark.

I guess I'll be the thousandth person to say this, but that's why it's important to have regular trading partners and trusted people in the community. Many trades I do are just through email or BM, where someone I've traded with before will approach me asking if I'm interested in beer XYZ and vice versa. I know it's easy to say this, but finding regulars is getting increasingly difficult

Agreed. It's incredibly easy to just send something without spending days bartering.

It is. However, if someone is hoping to find a regular trading partner, auctioning for whales is not going to get them anywhere. I established two of my regular trading partners by starting off with a local-for-local trade; nothing fancy, just a way to build trust. Another way I have established regular partners is to be quick, efficient, and most of all, give extras from their wants list- blow em away. Who wouldn't want to trade with someone who treated them well in the past?

Agreed. However, the threads that pushed me to starting this tell me the OPs don't care if you look anyway. They seem to be out to get the whitest whale possible so they can either turn around and auction that off for a bigger one or get the perceived better end of the deal.

These are all good ways to show people you are a good BA to deal with again in the future. Also, being in BIF's where hauls are posted is a good way to show that you are a responsible shipper, thoughtful of your target, and generous. One thing to keep in mind, is that if you want someone to be generous and give you a rare beer, you have to be willing to do the same. If your buddy sends you a Black Note this time, maybe next time you should send him a Veritas or Chocolate Rain.

Very good points! BIFs are a great way to show; it will be nice when the archived forums are available so they can be referenced.

Enough with the complaining about what other people do in threads!!!!

Geez. I don't like auctions either, but here's a secret; keep scrolling. Don't like something else? Keep scrolling. Suspect? Annoying? Irritating? Raises your blood pressure? Here's a hint. Ignore it, don't click on it, close the window. Move along.

In all seriousness, these threads have been popping up since the day I joined the site years ago. "Trading isn't like it used to be....There are only whales being offered...auctions suck...people suck...this beer is overvalued..." Insert your own old meme here. People are going to trade differently. Just accept it & move on. And yes, before anyone points it out, I understand the irony. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why don't you just...make an offer.

What is the big deal with this? Also note there's another thread identical to this right below this one.

The "reverse auction" is much more prevalent these days, and to me it's 10x more annoying than what you're complaining about. They're littering the trade forum -- "ISO: Beatification FT: You tell me!!!"

If someone comes out and says they will take the "best offer," whatever that means, then that's not my kind of thing and I just move on. Otherwise, if it's just an open ISO, then I might send in an application. I do open ISO's sometimes as well when I don't know what I want. Granted, it turns some people off, but I often get introduced to great brews I've never thought about or even heard of by doing this. Not every open ISO is an attempt to "maximize value."

Agree with JAXSON above. The "FT: You tell me" is much more annoying. At least give me an idication of what you have to trade, or I may as well just ask for your Dirty Horse. I never bother with these.

Not everyone has to trade the way you want them to, and you don't have to trade with everyone either.

I believe Auctions are still disallowed here so just report them.

The last one I saw said something along the lines of, "let the bidding begin." I checked it a couple minutes later to report it and it no longer said that. I think someone beat me to it!

I agree with your sentiment about the reverse auction. Either way, people are going to keep doing this. I guess I am just going to put on my big boy pants and stop whining.

Either make a good enough offer... or post your own ISO with the beers you'd be willing to trade... or sit this one out if you can't muster up the strength to woo the FT: poster.

There do seem to be more auction style posts as of late. I am just happy we dont have to see them all over the front of the main BA page anymore.

This is the one that I don't understand, particularly when it is for a beer that half the site is looking for at the moment (like Beatification). I can't imagine very many of these get done. If it's something that rarely gets traded it makes sense, but for a popular beer just post up what you've got to give up for it or don't bother.

As for offers - if everybody started putting half the effort into reporting auction offers as they did complaining about them, they'd dry up real quickly. They're technically not allowed.
