I don't know about brewing with weed, but when I was 16 I saved my stems for 2 months and put them in a bottle of Kettle One for 2 months. Boy, did we feel awful after trying that. I also think Stone Enjoy By is the most overrated beer out there, and FFF Evil Power was the biggest wast of money I've ever wasted my money on.

To keep on topic, I just bought Oracle and loved it!

High alpha-acid hop varieties are native to the US. Consider IPAs an homage to our heritage as American Brewers. And if you don't like them don't drink them. Nobody's forcing you.
NOW DRINK THIS HOPPY BEER OR ELSE

I know what the original post is getting at. Between once a week or once a month I head towards the local bottle shop and buy anything new, or knowingly tasty based on budget. The "NEW" category taking priority, seems to be dominated by APA's or IPA's. I love both, but would like to maybe see something other than an IBU or hopcentric only brew from a new brewery, or a new release from a fav. brewery.

I understand. If you don't like what you see, don't buy it. But there's nothing wrong with some frustration that the craft market seems to be dominated by hop forward beers than a mix of everything the craft market has to offer.

Dependent on your specific location of course, dictates your selection, but I do understand chapeti's frustration.

This is the one of the only reasons I would complain about hoppy beers. I'm kind of over super hoppy beers myself, though I understand why people like them. It just irks me when I walk into my grocery store and there are literally 15 IPA's, while it may be a struggle to find one decent stout. And yes, I get the economics, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Well, I'm 40...eeeeer something years old. I started drinking better beers in Oregon in the mid nineties. My folks live in Upper Washington, I've had beers from all over western Europe at this point. The mid west makes the best beers.

Yakama valley can't supply brewers with the amount of hops they need, so most brewers are going to New Zealand to get their hops these days. Have at it!

I'm also 40...eeeeer something years old. I started drinking better beers in Washington in the early nineties. I grew up in the Midwest and my mom still lives in Missouri, I've had beers from all over western Europe at this point, as well as all parts of North America. The Midwest does not make the best beers. It also does not grow the best hops.

My feelings exactly; it seems as though there are a million IPA styles today. It cheapens the style in some way; for example, beers that have no business being called IPA's are being called, "IPA's" and "Double IPA's". However I can't condemn any brewer who is genuinely trying to "do hops" the right way. The "right way" as far as I am concerned is to brew the beer in such a way as to make all of the flavors in the hops come out. Not, as some do, simply dump in a ton of hops or not enough and call the brew an IPA.

I love hoppy beers, and couldn't care less if it's a fad....
I'll care when I can't get Jai Alai or Two Hearted or Maharaja.
I'll also shed a tear that day.

But I don't drink beer to see for how many flavors I can pick out. I drink it because it tastes good.

I used to drink porters and stouts about .... 20 years ago. I'm not interested anymore...won't touch the stuff! I drink for the hops. I want the hops...that's why I drink it. I like PNW beers, but they muddy down thier beers too much. I like a strait single hop beer done to the extreme. I want to drink HOPS. If I want a centennial...I look for a centennial...if I want a citra, I look for a citra, If I want a Nelson I look for a Nelson. Cascade hops and the like are not my favorite...but I'll drink it if its done well! The wife likes it bitter... the more bitter the better. She drinks for the bitters. Find what you like to drink and drink it, that's what I say.

The islands far enough north for you?

I'm a grandpa and I adore super hoppy IPAs. I just had a delicious Foothills Jade and it's my beer of choice. My problem is that I like to drink ALL kinds of beer and realize that "hoppy only" is a narrow perspective. The beauty is the diversity of beer types, varying tastes that people have, and the pioneering spirit of modern American brewing. Pils, Kolsch, Swarz, you name it, are all over the place and people love them. I think that good beer is a permanent fad, and that we're very fortunate to be witnessing this multi-varied beer revolution! I love effing BEER!

Which are your favorite single hop beers? I too love those, always looking for new ones to try.

I really like beers from PNW, admittedly haven't tried that many, but have had quite a few of the "usual suspects" as well as a few of the harder to get (Hop Venom, Notorious, Sticky Hands, Armored Fist) and I am wondering if you could name a few of the muddied down ones so I can see if I have had them and agree/disagree, or so I can make sure not to look for those?

Nothing wrong with helping out with the correct phrase, but I don't think it warranted sarcasm. I like having the perspective of beer from other parts of the world. It would be nice if we made everyone feel welcome when likely not writing in their native language.

Find a beer you like. Drink it, find another, drink. Repeat till anger subsides.

But people like hops. So the hype is going to be for the beers the majority like. I happen to be in the majority on this one, I know I feel dirty but it happens.
