If a bartender charged me for half a beer I would take it out of his or her tip. That's bullshit right there! I have gotten many free half beers from kicked kegs. Never have I been charged let alone at full price.

Charging me full price for half a pour is like charging me full price for a half order of onion rings. If a server insisted on charging me full price for a half pour I'd ask to speak to management. If management insisted on charging me full price for a half pour I'm never setting foot in that establishment again. They need to either charge me half price for a half pour or offer to get me something else. If I order something else I'm in no way entitled to the half pour from the keg that kicked for free. I could see why an establishment might offer the remaining half-pour in order to generate good will but ultimately unless I'm buying it, it ain't mine, it's theirs.

I would hope that the beer would be on the house but as soon as they told me that the keg kicked I would order another beer immediatly. I would also tip big on the half pour. If you go to dinner and they give you the wrong side they don't charge you for the mistake but let you keep the wrong side and bring out the correct order, I think ordering a beer and getting a half pour is an example of the order not being completed correctly. This would be good customer service to comp it but once again tip for the good customer service of the comp.

    I'd say:
    - Never entitled to free beer
    - Grateful when I get it
    - Never would be willing to pay full price for half the amount

The half glass of the kicked keg should be free. But not your "replacement" ordered beer.

A few months ago on two separate occasions within a week the person I was drinking with had a keg kick on them. They each got it for free. In one of those cases we ordered the same beer but I ordered first and missed out on a freebie.

This happens at the place I go quite frequently the keg will kick on a growler or pour they usually just let them have the pour on a growler they give them half price if it is half or 1/3 depends on how full it is. By the way my usual place is great and they go out of the way to make sure the customer is happy!!

A free pour is nice but not to be expected. My favorite 'free pour' was a CBS when it first came out and the keg blew with a 3/4 pour. Good times.

When I pay for a full pour, I'm entitled to get what I paid for. When somebody gives me something for free I am very grateful but certainly not entitled.

Charging full price for a half a pour, of whatever beer, is the same amount of wrong as expecting it for free.

I was a bartender for 17 years, last beer out of the keg was ALWAYS free.

Maybe not a free replacement beer, but no charge for the remnant pour seems fair...

I am entitled to free beer in any scenario you can dream up. Rarely get it, though.

Hard to believe that (currently) 38% of respondents think paying full price for a 1/2 of the volume is to be expected. Did you (Todd and the other 38%) even read the description of the situation. I would be at last tempted to refuse the beer if that was the case.

I was at an event where a bunch of aged sours were poured by the glass and a buddy got the last pour of a bottle. Unfounately the bar tender poured all the dregs with it and he got a white chalky mess. She charged him for the pour

I wouldn't pay full price for a half pour. I'd have a big problem in that scenario

I very rarely drink out. But my favorite local brewery did an event with Three Floyds a few months ago, and I ordered a 1/2 pint of Alpha Kong. Kicked the keg, would up with 1/2 a glass and they didn't charge me for it. I was stoked.

The same brewery also did a tasting even with a bunch of new beers, and my buddy won a giant metal sign for being the guy to get the last pour out of a certain keg. I thought that was pretty cool.

But to answer the question, I do not believe getting 1/2 a glass should warrant a free beer. It's awesome when it does, but I would never expect to get that one on the house, even if it's only 1/2 a glass. But being charged full price for half a glass is BS.
